its when the baby gets into position to be born, baby is breech and will turn head down feet up when they drop, its varies when this happens, there is no set time, just when baby is ready

I'm not due until June and mine is already head down! Not to worry! Both of my other kids stayed head down after about 20 weeks, same with this one. Good luck.

my baby is head down for a long time..when I had my 20 weeks ultrasound he was head down..and he still is..
But dropping is something else I think..Baby's head goes down getting ready for birth

I agree. I dropped the day of labor starting with my son (he was early) but with my daughter it was a couple/few weeks before. Most people "drop" weeks before delivery. I wouldn't worry about the baby being early though because of that. Just ask your doctor at your next appt when you go. quoteposted 27th Feb '07
Baby 'dropping" is also known as engaging.
It gives mom the ability to breathe easier , yet baby spends more time beating up on the bladder. And applying more pressure down on the girly parts.
Most first time babies tend to engage earlier than babies that follow #1.
Babies #2 and on tend to engage later some not until the onset of labor.
Babies can move at anytime from being in a vertex position (head down) to a breech position (head up) . This can happen at anytime, sometimes even during labor. Althought breech vaginal births are not taught as much these days waiting for labor to start give baby plenty of time to turn and be set for labor and birth.
