I think every body is different. Sometimes, when severely overweight or underweight your body doesn't ovulate or function the way it should. A woman in our choice has had tons of fertility issues. She was well over 200 lbs, and they tried 4 years or so. She eventually lost over 100lbs. It took her over a year. She got pregnant within her first month of trying and was ovulating on her own, had a healthy pregnancy. I've also seen morbidly obese, barely overweight, and average weight women carry pregnancies to term normally and healthily. But that doesn't mean that is how your body works. Have you ever asked your doctor if he thinks your weight has anything to do with you being unble to get pregnant? According to the weight you said you should be at, that is about 100lbs (roughly, 85? 90?) that would need to be lost in order to be at a healthy weight. Do you have PCOS? I wish you the best

My OB would like me to lose a little bit of weight before I TTC. Mainly because she doesn't want me to pack on the pounds like my last pregnancy and end up with another gigantic baby.

but never mentioned it would help me get pregnant or anything.

I think it would only be an issue if you were morbidly obese and have health issues because of it.

Quoting Landon's Mommy *TTC*:" My doctor has not once mentioned weight so I was just curious. I've had a few people chime in to tell ... [snip!] ... & then I've also had a few tell me that an OB won't tell you you need to lose weight, only an RE will make that move."
some doctors will tell you and others won't. With your progesterone levels being so low with every cycle of clomid it looks like to me that you are not ovulating. If could be that you are not ovulating at all on the clomid. They like to see the number be around 14 after ovulation. I really think you should go see an RE b/c I do not feel your OBGYN is monitoring you like he/she should. You should be getting 2 ultrasounds a month (one at the beginning and one mid cycle to look at follicles) It never hurts to try and lose a few pounds just to see if it helps with everything including ovulation. 10 to 15 lbs can make a world of a difference some times.

We can agree to disagree!!!! That is ok!.

No I don't have PCOS or anything. I've only seen my doctor twice in the past 6 months, the first time I met him & then in December when he had to cut my infected hair   It's something I might bring up to him when I set up the appointment to see him next week..

it is ok. but... it's a medical fact htat it's unhealthy to be overweight so it's not really an opinion based statement.

OP- being overweight also puts you at higher risk of post partum hemorrhaging.

Your OB should have told you that it can affect your fertility. Even a weight gain of 5 pounds can mess up your cycle or your fertility.
I do think that your body eventually gets used to your weight gain though and you "even" out. I'm the heaviest I've ever been (240-245 and near 5'5) and my cycles have been messed up well over 1 1/2 years (just got back to normal). I do know that I'm ovulating...

If yours has proven to be progesterone issues, I wouldn't worry. Your issue is staying pregnant, yes? Not getting pregnant. I've never heard of weight affecting your ability to stay pregnant, only getting there.

yes. But I also have heard doctors say that overweight people can live a healthy, long life and have healthy pregnancies!! I have a feeling this is a 2 sided subject!

I do agree that there is a "certain point" where it would get unhealthy. But I am a chunkball, and you can ask any doctor I see. I am a picture of health and I take care of myself.

Quoting ♥MommyToAGingerBoy:" I was 185 when I got pregnant and I'm only 5'1. I'm obese for my height. My main problem was my PCOS and I only ovulate 4X a year"

They told me I had PCOS, but I don't think they're right. I did have 90 day cycles. I've only had one time where my insulin was high and when they did an ultrasound, they found no cysts. They found me to be ovulating...
I think they sometimes want to slap a label on your issues and be done with you instead of really figuring out what's up (not that that's the case for you though).

Weight does play a part when trying to conceive but it doesn't mean it is impossible. I was at the same weight you are when I got pregnant with this child and I was even heavier with my daughter. I know one girl was about the same weight as I am and she had 10 miscarriages. Then she had weight loss surgery, lost some weight and was able to stay pregnant. Hope this helps...I know stress plays a part too...maybe you want a baby so bad that you are putting your body under too much stress, causing you to miscarry. I hope this helps! Good luck

Just read an article about being overweight affects your chemical hormone balance

. n women who are overweight the fat cells produce excessive estrogen which causes the body to think that she is pregnant. The ovaries are under the misconception that they do not need to ovulate and menstruation will stop. Without ovulation, there is no period. On the flipside, too much estrogen can causes an overgrowth of cells also affecting the monthly period as does too little progesterone. The overproduction of fat cells can also lead to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) due to insulin resistance. Women with PCOS have irregular periods because they usually do not ovulate.

Not sure if it is relevant. I read mixed things. I just hope regardless, you get your baby

Well both. I've been ovulating on Clomid but my levels are so low still after 5 rounds that it's not doing anything. I got pregnant in Jan then again in April. Miscarried both. It's all so frustrating..
