I had never had a reaction that severe before. I don't know what that was about. I also have the muscle aches and malaise... which is part of my hypothyroidism too. Oh, and if I have any sugar I feel hungover the next morning.

Yeah, she's amazing. She does muscle testing. It seemed weird at first but I love it!.

Thyroid problems are actually VERY common in people with celiac, and eating gluten free can help that a lot. It's amazing how many problems can be caused by that, and yet so few people are ever actually diagnosed. Like, less then 10% of people who have it. And also, I've heard (and experienced it myself now) that once you go off gluten, your response to it is often MUCH worse then before you went off of it. Probably because you get used to the gluten and develop a bit of a tolerance to it, so when you stop eating it, it effects you a lot worse.

Yeah, that's what my doctor said (about the worse reaction). I just know that I'm not doing that to myself ever again... on purpose anyway. I'll just add it to my list of allergies. Eggs, peanuts, gluten. The poopy thing about it is that a lot of gluten free stuff uses eggs.

I'm really wanting to going with mainly raw food but still have meat and cheese in the diet.... just because when I eat lots of raw food, I feel amazing!

Yeah, a lot does use eggs. They do have a few that are "allergy free" but it also usually doesn't use milk either, so they don't always taste that great.. However, if you make most of the stuff yourself it's easier. I think once I"m done with the month of gluten I'm going to go back to eating paleo (thta was when I first suspected I had a gluten issue). My Dr suggested I eat like that and I felt so wonderful. No processed food at all, no grains, no dairy. It was really great for us, and I might go back to at least eating like that most of the time.

I've considered paleo too... I'm just not sure about totally ditching the dairy. I love to get raw milk from the local dairy.

I love this thread, and this is what I'm mostly following. The concentration is no longer on weight but rather fitness goals

Yeah it's hard to kick the milk, lol. For me it's somewhat like the gluten. If I feel better without it, then I'm going to try and not drink it. We'll see though, after all the testing and stuff I'll probably test it out and see if the dairy gives me any trouble.

What inspired you to make the transition?

ETA: I know you had hit a plateau and was wondering if that is why you decided to focus on fitness now.

I've actually seen you post a lot, and I think you're one of my heros actually! I've seen how much you've accomplished and I'd LOVE to be as fit as you are! This is also the feeling I've come to. I've realized I want to get fit and healthy. It will likely cause weight loss, but I'm tired of focusing on "I need to lose "x" number of lbs" as if whats on the scale is all I'm worth. Instead, I want to focus on increasing the weight when I strength train, and being able to run first, then running further, lol. I want to focus in what my body can do, and improving it, and that doesn't come from just wanting that scale number to go down.

Yep, the neverending plateau. It was aorund Ocotober when I finally just quit weighing myself and focused on my fitness goals. Since then I've been a lot more happy.

Aww thanks

Yes, that's what I've come to. The scale is not what I'm worth and doesn't dictate what I can and cannot do. Much happier this way. AND the goals are ATTAINABLE and WITHIN YOUR CONTROL.

Very true! I can directly control WHAT I do, and I can make myself strong and healthier. That doesn't directly effect my weight. I can be skinny and unhealthy, and I don't want that. I want to be healthy, and while I will probably lose weight, it just isn't something I focus on anymore because I've finally realized that it doesn't really indicate my health let alone my worth.

How do you guys deal with people who just don't understand? I recently started working out with a woman who is going to be on my team for an event called Tough Mudder. I have a problem sticking to weight training, and I NEED to weight train for this event. She said she'd help me with weights, I said I'd help her with running.. We had chatted online for a bit (over FB, we both belong to the same gym) before we met up so she knew I had just run a half, was into running, etc. But the look on her face when we met... I don't think she expected ME to show up. I think she expected someone who LOOKED fitter.

So we did her circuit routine and she kept refering to my weight (ie. "I'm not a trainer so if you don't lose weight we'll figure something out") and underestimating what I could do. I had to tell her a few times, nicely, that I'm tougher than I looked and I'm not looking to lose weight, rather looking to train for this event. I really didn't want to pour out my whole sob story of homonal imbalance, surgeries, etc. to her to get her to understand why I wasn't losing weight. I just don't want her to continue to refer to my weight while we're training and understand I'm actually HAPPY with where I am because my body is strong.

Any advice?
