Quoting Fat-and-Happy:" Let me know what you think about that book!  "

I am just barely into it... but so far I am enjoying the perspective it brings.

I like the comments better than I like the article, I just want to be comfortable in my body again! Like, physically comfortable...not socially.

That is totally understandable. I think most everyone wants to be physically comfortable in their body

Can't say too much because I haven't read the book, not my cup of tea personally, but I did look at the blog. I am all for loving yourself and living an active healthy lifestyle! (Here comes the big but) BUT I don't think being overweight is healthy, just like being underweight or eating crap is not good. As much as you can claim that you are healthy, I am willing to bet that while you might be healthy for your size, there's a size that's healthier for you. The medical community has lots of studies about how being overweight puts you at a higher risk for many health problems...even if you are "fat and happy" or "fat and eating healthy" fat itself can be dangerous when there's too much. Too much of anything can be a bad thing!

Haha... Yeah, I started reading it several months ago. I'm only a little over halfway through.

Thank you for your opinion. I don't agree with you. Lifestyle is what determines health regardless of size.   Fat itself is not dangerous in and of itself. I've done plenty of research on the matter.

While I can respect your opinion and that there probably is research to back it we will just have to agree to disagree. Maybe I've just taken my social training of fat=bad to heart but I think you're high off your rocker if you really believe that you wouldn't be healthier if you lost weight...but I have to say that you have something that I don't, which is a love for yourself and acceptance of your body. I've struggled with that my whole life. So kudos to you!

lol "high off your rocker" made me giggle.

It is a complicated issue. 95-98% of dieters gain all their weight back within 5 years. Suggesting weight loss is not an effective "treatment," if you will, of obesity. There is evidence that indicates that this kind of dieting/weight cycling is detrimental to your health. Obese women who have had the weight fluctuate are 4X more likely to experience hypertension than obese women whose weights have remained constant. Dieting also causes the body to up its set point weight to guard against the perceived famine that dieting causes. Also, there is some new research that suggests that dieting causes the brain to eat itself. There are a few studies that say that anyone, with any body size, can benefit from the benefits of a healthy lifestyle whether or not they lose any weight.

I'm not always confident, but I try my darnedest to be. Our cultural fear of fat causes every woman to live in fear and it causes so many to suffer.

My body let me know, in no uncertain terms, that gluten is a no no.

You too!? I'm miserable because I decided I wanted to actually get tested, so after 6 weeks of being gluten free and feeling great, I am doing a gluten challenge so I can actually get tested, but it's horrible. I've been miserable this week.

Yeah, I hadn't had much gluten at all because my doctor said I was reacting to it. I decided that a couple of girl scouts cookies, because they're my weakness and my mom had then, and I had the headache from hell. I took excedrin migraine, went to bed, and woke up with blood all of my pillow and my hands from a nosebleed in the middle of the night. And my nostril and sinuses on one side was clogged with blood. I took my bp and it was 159/97. I had a headache for three days straight.

Never again....

Wow, how scary. I have more subtle issues. Well, the stomach problems aren't that subtle, lol, but other then it's mostly just feeling bad. Tired, aches and pains, headaches (but not terrible ones). For the last week since going back on gluten though it's been awful. I have no energy. Ever single day I've had stomach cramping. I don't feel really happy or anything. I can't wait until the month is up so I can do my tests then go back to gluten free.

It's good you figured it out though, so you can avoid gluten. It's great that you have a doctor who was able to figure out te problem.
