Well I think by now you should be able to see it when you look in a mirror too, but I cant say for sure because Im not sure if I saw mine at that time, but now at 22 wks its pretty obvious!
Anyways by feel, its alot harder then your regular stomach. So when you press theres some resistance I guess you could say...Does that kind of make sense, like if you feel above or right below your belly button its softer then move your hands down and its a bit harder.
Hope this helps!

UMM?? I actually have no idea I know my uterus is getting huge but I don't know where or how to feel it myself? It would be kinda cool to feel it though.

3 inches down from your belly button is way too low for 17 weeks. The top of your uterus at this point should be at about the height of your belly button. What you are feeling for is a hardness that is different from the rest of your abdomen. Try starting down at your pubic bone and sliding your fingers up your abdomen until you feel like a drop off point.. i don't know how else to describe it. You'll just notice that your abdomen goes from firm to soft all of a sudden. That soft spot is where your uterus ends. Hope this helps... or you can always ask your doctor at your next check up.

This is exactly how I felt too then. It would be hard but a whole lot harder because I could feel the baby roll up real close to the skin it felt! And like the other girl aid you will feel it firmer and then where your uterus ends it will be softer.

hey there!!! anyways yes about one in inch below and center from you belly button you should feel right where the heardening begins
that is the top of your uterus
there is no way to distinguish it other than it is soft right above
then all the way down to the top of the hairline in the pubic area is where you wont be able to feel it anymore
it basically is the hardness, thats it right there

Week 17
You: Your uterus is 1.5 to 2 inches (3.8 to 5cm) below your bellybutton. You are showing more now and have an obvious swelling in your lower abdomen. By this time, expanding or maternity clothing is a must for comfort’s sake. When your partner gives you a hug, he may feel the difference in your lower abdomen.
The rest of your body is still changing. A total of 5- to 10-pound (2.25- to 4.5-kg) gain by this point in your pregnancy is normal.
Baby: The crown-to-rump length of your baby is 4.4 to 4.8 inches (110 to 120mm: 11 or 12 cm). Fetal weight has doubled in 2 weeks and is about 3.5 ounces (100g). By this week, your baby is about the size of your hand spread open wide.

This could very will be different from person to person too, so if you feel your uterus higher or lower than what is noted, don't get too freaked out. Next time you visit your provider ask how you can feel where the top of your uterus is. For me it feels a little harder than the rest of my abdomen, and easier to feel when lying down.

If you try to sit upright from a laying down position using your stomach muscles you can usually see the shape of the uterus by doing this. The part at the top is called the fundus and it is to that that many care providers measure to from your pubic bone.

I was super confused by that as well...! I find that when I'm lying down in the morning, if I poke around below my belly button you can feel a difference... But when I'm standing/sitting it just feels like tummy...! *LOL*

try feeling on the sides too, and lay down on your back when you are feeling for it. If you feel on the sides and you feel something hard, follow it around and you will notice that it feels like there is a ball in there!
