Primary MD or OBGYN?

posted 14th Apr
Who do you contact when your sick? I have bronchitis and have been going through my primary DR but am feeling worse after 4 days of Antibiotics, I called and left a message for him today - just not sure who I should be seeing at this point... any ideas? P.S. Baby is still kicking the hell out of me so I'm thinking hes okay

I would call your OB; they have better knowledge of what kinds of meds you can take

please note that antibiotics are meant to make you feel like shit.. lol.. like seriously I was on 4000mg of augmentin a day for my chronic sinus infections.. (before my pregnancy).. and I was so tired and weak and had headaches and overall just felt BLAH

Well when i'm sick I just deal with my Primary MD. My MD & my OB can call each other if they need to discuss meds. My OB told me to tell my MD that & thats pretty much what he'll do if he has any questions but most docs usually know what a pregnant woman can & can't have anyway.

Thats not the case where i'm at. My OB is simply my pregnancy doc. My MD is my everything else doc.

My MD was an idiot and tried to put me on blood pressure medicine that I can't take when I"m preggo, when I was preggo and he knew it. So I just went to my OB from then on. Needless to say I dropped my MD all together after that. MORON!!!!!!! (the doc, not anyone else  )

Well, this is why I'm confused - for my asthma the OB told me to refer to the Primary - but I am also on a rotating sched to meet all the DR's at the OB office so hell if I know which one of them to contact! Seriously - since I've been on the "Z Pack" I have had SUCH bad headahces where my eyes hurt to be open... and I have high blood pressure since being pregnant. I'm a mess... lol I just want to feel better and know who to call! I guess I will see what my Primary says when he calls back, and I'm sched to see my OB next Thurs.

I was under this impression as well...when I've had any issues I've gone to my OB and she's referred me to specialists when necessary. Your OB is the one who has had the most contact with you recently (usually), and knows what all is going on with you. And I was told by their office that if anything comes up I should call them first anyway...while an infection would usually be something you would call your main MD for, it COULD have an effect on the pregnancy...

Like I said, I've always called my OB if I've had a medical issue while I've been pregnant.
