Quoting Ashley Vinet:" Did she mention it to ANYONE or have any doctors appointments? I find it hard to believe she wouldnt ... [snip!] ... I had no idea it was so bad, but I still made an effort to figure out what was wrong and could tell things werent quite right. "

It wasn't mentioned to anyone before-hand. The baby's grandmother visited and realised something was wrong and took the baby to hospital and that's when social services stepped in. The grandmother can't look after the baby herself but is happy for my friend to so long as she still gets a good grandmother relationship with her. The baby is doing great. She will be sore for a while but really starting to see a personality emerging now she's settling down. She is still mainly being tube fed as it hurts her to suck but she's being offered small sips of milk from a dropper to re-introduce her to feeding orally.

Red flag number 2.
I didn't even catch that the parents weren't even the ones to bring the baby to the hospital.
No way in hell those parents are innocent.

Quoting Emmiboo&Eva:" My best friend's cousin had a baby girl in November and last week the baby was taken into hospital with ... [snip!] ... least she's well cared for now. Do you think it's possible a mamma can not notice her child is injured that badly for a month!?"

I think that's sickening. I mean, at one month they cannot speak and let you know what is bothering them but if their ribs were broken, you would think there would be some type of bruising and if she is in that much pain that she cries being dressed and fed than she must have had the same reactions when it first happened and if my child seemed in pain or seemed like something was wrong, whether I knew just what exactly or not, I would take her to the doctor or the ER, and find out what was wrong. I would think most attentive, responsible parents would do the same thing.
Chances are, she knew what was wrong, and he did as well and they both ignored it in spite of her pain because they knew it was inflicted by abuse and they didn't want to get in trouble. I hope that baby stays away from them, but the courts are so effed up anymore the way they try to "rehabilitate" the parents and half the time the parents end up doing the same smurf and the child ends up harmed or dead. That's too bad and horrible for that poor baby.

The positive news is she will make a full recovery and is in a loving home now. I just hope she gets to stay with my friend permanently. A week and a half until they find out in court. If she goes back to her parents then my heart will break and I dread getting a phone call that she is more seriously hurt or worse.
Watch this space for the court outcome. It basically comes down to if they find the mum guilty or not. In my opinion, even if the Mum didn't hurt her daughter, she still neglected the injuries. I've seen the baby and she cries in such desperation when she is dressed or handled too much. Yes I'm certain there were bruises. You can also see yellowing on her tummy and chest area, suggesting old bruises which a few weeks ago would've been bright purple surely? I just don't see how any good mother can not notice that, even if she wasn't responsible for it happening. So at the worst, the Mum did it and at the best she ignored the signs..... either way she clearly isn't capable of parenting.

I hope your friend gets custody of the baby. Although usually I'd try not to assume the worse on the parents, the fact that the injury was that old AND they weren't the ones to bring her in, and they were playing the blame game......yea someone is guilty.

This is a simular story to mine but I noticed the night it happened! I rushed my son to hospital because he was in the bedroom with his father then i heard a scream and ran into the bedroom to find my ex "sleeping" and my son brought up blood. It wouldnt of gone unnoticed for a month as i knew there was something wrong when my son screamed and he had two broken ribs!

My Mom had CPS called on her because they didnt notice injuries on me and because I injured myself so often. I had very brittle bones. It wasnt my parents fault, they just didnt see that I was even in pain.
