If you could see this little girl..... she's smaller than average, looks only a few weeks old and is so innocent. How could anyone harm her? She's beautiful.

It makes me want to cry thinking someone could do something like that to a helpless child.

I accidently cut my daughter's finger skin whilst clipping her nails and I cried for ages from the guilt! To think some people hurt kids intentionally sickens me!

Are they sure there was abuse? I worked in peds in a hospital and there are a couple of genetic disorders that make bones (especially ribs) easy to break. Child abuse is always suspected at first in these cases.
The disorders arent common but they occur.

I wont jump to conclusions, they might not have known. I broke my OWN rib and didnt know for a long time...and the way I broke it? Coughing! I certainly wasnt being abused. Ya never know, these parents may be blamed for something they actually didnt do. The baby may have been fussy and they just assumed it was just a high needs baby....you dont know the whole story

True, they may have genuinely not harmed the baby. It just breaks my heart that she suffered any ways. they are investigating and if the courts decide the parents did it then my friend will adopt the baby. They estimated it to take 2 weeks in court. It's a very messy situation for all involved.

This is one of the disorders that a remember seeing in the hospital that was mistaken for abuse:

It's called menkes syndrome. the babies usually have odd, kinky hair. do you know if she has funny hair?

If neither of the parents genuinely knew that their child's ribs were broken, then why would they be trying to blame it on each other?

My husband and I are the only one who are currently permitted to watch my youngest. If he had a broken rib and I knew it wasnt me....well, one would naturally assume that the other person did it.

If my daughter had broken ribs I would be telling the hospital there was no way my husband did it, not telling them he was the only person that could have.

I would be looking into any medical explanation before I would jump to assuming my DH abused her.
So for them to immediately point the finger at the other sends up some red flags for me.

OP, I wish your friend the best! That's such a wonderful thing she's doing. And I hope that sweet little baby heals quickly.

Aside from the fact that blaming your spouse for abusing your child means that you feel he would be capable of doing so, if neither of the parents were guilty and honestly didn't know the baby had broken ribs, I would think playing the blame game would be the farthest thing from one's mind.

Did she mention it to ANYONE or have any doctors appointments? I find it hard to believe she wouldnt notice anything at all. My newborn son ended up having some kind of crazy lymph node problem the size of a golf ball in his neck, but in the week before I could tell he was sore. At first it was a sore neck maybe from being born or passed around too much. Two days later took him to a doctor that agreed, asked the MIL and family their advice ect. He ended up being hospitalized for weeks over it and I had no idea it was so bad, but I still made an effort to figure out what was wrong and could tell things werent quite right.

This. I can understand blaming the other person IF child abuse was actually proven to be the cause, but even then I would still have such a hard time suspecting my husband. What a sad situation.
