Sleep And Feedings
posted 13th Apr
So I have a slight problem/question that I could really use some help with. My son is a week old tomorrow and breastfeeding fairly well although he likes to eat A LOT and all the time. My problem is that during the day he'll sleep for roughly 3-4 hours straight and usually be up for an hour or two but at night he'll sleep for an hour or two and be up just to eat which takes him about 30mins-1 hour. Last night I couldn't get any sleep because he was waking every 45mins-1 hour just to feed! My nipples of course are now soooo sore but that's not a big deal. The question is, should I wake him up during the day or is there anything I could try to get him sleeping just a tad better at night (More like during the day)?

Don't wake him up honey, babies don't have a schedule, they will. Right now you need to let him sleep how he wants and you just have to work around HIS schedule. Unless he is losing weight because he is sleeping too much andnot eating and your doctor told you to wake him up for feedings, you shouldn't wake him.

At just a week old they don't know the difference between night and day. I suggest you sleep during the day when he sleeps and work around him. As he gets older he will get better. My daughter is 6 weeks and learning what night time is for. Shes now sleeping longer at night and less during the day but its a gradual process.

Thanks. Ya i'd love to sleep during the day but having a 3 year old as well makes it impossible basically.
