Advice

posted 31st Jan '12
One of my really close friends gave birth 2 months 1 week early to a 3 pound 13 oz baby boy yesterday.
I've offered her a ride to the hospital any time she needs it and Im not working to see him. But what other kinds of support, advice, kind words are needed in this situation

First of all, way to be a super supportive friend.   Celebrate EVERY milestone her baby reaches with her. "Baby is switching to low flow oxygen" "Baby is switching formulas" etc.. And obviously go visit baby when you take her there if she's comfortable with that. Ask how baby boy is doing. That's the kind of stuff I do for my friend and what I wanted done when my son was in the NICU.

yes be there for her, help get through this and talk her. so i am guessing her little one is in the nicu ? i do know her baby is getting the good care he needs, those nurse will take very good care of him  .. oh when she sitting there watching her little one, the little one can tell she's there by the energy and sound of her voice she gives.

when LO was in the hospital i stayed at the ronald mcdonald house, when SO wasnt there with me i really needed someone with me but no one could ever come stay with me nor could they spend time with me at all other than my family.. just be her friend during this time, take her out for dinner, window shopping to get her mind off of things and to feel like she still has friends..

let her vent to you about how stressful it is, let her talk to you about stuff she researches about preemies... just be a listener and be supportive of any decision she might have to make/..she NEEDS emotional support more than anything else

    THIS
Especially the shopping or out to dinner to take her mind off of the stress. Cuz while she is a preemies mom, she is still a woman, and needs to be reminded of that every once in awhile.
