Stopped breastfeeding help

posted 10th Apr
I've stopped breastfeeding my daughter. I searched on gaga and read to wear a sports bra to help bind your breasts. Also, to put cabbage in your bra as this will help dry up the milk. So I'm doing both things. My question is when did the fullness of your breasts go down? Mine feel like they are just full of milk. I've only stopped breastfeeding for five days now.

The milk is still good for her...why not go back to nursing once or twice a day for a few more months and wean her slowly? You would get immediate relief from the pressure. Then your supply would taper off slowly, and she would get the immune benefits of your milk for a few more months.

I've heard not to use the pill because it has been shown to cause or increase infertility.

I only breastfeed for a month. Dried up in two days   They went down to their size really fast. I wanted to try again but thought I couldn't. Now i know that it was possible for me to get my supply back but its too late now.

I've been breastfeeding her for almost 19 months and I really wanted to stop. I did wean her slowly. I stopped nursing her before I went to work in the morning about a month ago. Then a few weeks later I stopped nursing her right before she went to bed. I was down to nursing her once a day before I stopped.

Wow. I am really surprised that you are feeling such fullness since you basically weaned her down to only a couple times a day first. When Evan stopped nursing (he was about 22 months) I had NO PROBLEM...never felt full. BUT...I had problems from the start, and he only got about 2-3oz at each feeding.

Maybe try calling a lactation consultant to see if there are any herbs that you can take. The cabbage leaves are the biggest help that I have ever heard of...sorry it's not working very quickly for you.

oh...I misunderstood the situation a bit...I thought she was under a year and you quit cold turkey! Sorry. I hope you dry up fast...it didn't take me too long, I'm surprised you still have so much since you weaned slowly.

Thanks for the advice. I'll call the lactation consultant tomorrow.

You can try some herbs that stop lactation. Sage is the most common.Takeas atea, by steeping a half tsp. in water for fifteen minutes three times a day. A tincture can be used, if you have it and know the amounts.
Parsley is another, just add toyour diet. Jasmine flowers can be added tot he breasts. It is suppose to work like cabbage.
Other herbs that can decrease milk supply:, Spearmint, Chickweed, Black Walnut, Yarrow, Lemon Balm, Oregano.
Wrapping the breast is not recommended, as it might cause plugged ducts, breast infection, or breast abscess.
Also avoid oatmeal, as that increases milk supply.

Edited to add: There are also "Stop Milk" teas that you can purchase that have a mixture of the above mentioned herbs in them.

That's ok, I probably didn't explain myself right. But I'm surprised they are so full too and can't wait for them to go down!

Thanks for the information. I'll have to look into some of these.

Now I say mine "dried up fast" as in they weren't full, but let me tell you....it's been over a year since I've quit breastfeeding and I can still express a little milk. (Don't ask me why I check periodically!)

LOL

Must be a mommy thing! I did the same thing! For a long time I could get some milk out, too!
