okay...

posted 10th Apr
Looks like I'm joining everyone on the preemie forum. Found out today that our baby boy is going to be preemie no matter what, just a matter of whether it will be a week from now, or 3 weeks. The doctor is going to try to hold off until 35 weeks. *crossing our fingers*

6 1/2 weeks. But a baby 33 weeks and on has MUCH better chances as well. For every day longer that they're in there the less likely they are to have to stay long.

Auh, hang in there momma! 35 weeks is a great point for preemies, many don't have any complications at all! Will you be getting the steroid shots? My kiddos were born at 28 and 30 weeks.

The doctor said it was a possibility but he's more old fashioned and said that the steroid shot is more of a personal choice. Anyone know the pro's and cons to steroids?

6 1/2 weeks! Ahh.. That would drive me crazy! I'm glad he's doing great now. Must have been pretty scary

I didn't have time for the shots with either of my babies either, but I see NO reason why a mother wouldn't get them, or why a doctor wouldn't recommend them! I've never heard of a negative side effect! I only know that they won't do it AFTER the baby is born because then it does pose some risks.

My son was born at 36 weeks and he was in there for a month. It all depends on why they are taking the baby early. does he have any complications or are you having complications?
I also received the steroid shot twice and I also think that he did better when he was born because of it.

The baby is being taken early due to preeclampsia. So I guess it's a spot of both of us having complications, but the nurse said his heartbeat was strong strong strong yesterday. Let me see if I can get my 3d sonogram pics up of our little man!

There's never an exact time that your baby will be in the ICN. It all depends on who what where when and why. Since your baby will definitely be early I can tell you he will go straight to the ICN. If he has no complications at birth they will simply keep him there to make sure that he is maintaining his body temp on his own, feeding well, breathing on his own, and gaining weight(although don't be alarmed all babies lose a little weight when they are born). If any other complications should arise they will let you know what to expect of him in order for him to go home. Every baby is different.

My son was born at 32 Weeks. I did get the steriod shots and my son only required air flow.

He came home in 33 days after delivery.

Good Luck momma.
