toddler's possibly sprained ankle. hospital?

My husband and I are house sitting for a friend of ours, who has four dogs, two adult and two puppies. the mother and the pups are in a separate room right now, with a baby gate separating from the main living area and a doggy door for them to go outside so my son has no contact with them, the other dog has been a great dog and very gentile, but last night he knocked my son down and started humping him. I got my son away from the dog pretty quickly and the dog has since been in the outer room with the rest of the dogs. well he was crying pretty bad and really shook up. he cant talk yet to tell me if he is hurt but he didnt seem hurt at the time. we held him and rocked him until he fell asleep (went to sleep early) and so he didnt get a chance to walk around anywhere. this morning I notice he is not walking, and even refusing to walk when I put him on his feet. he whines and gets down on his knees to crawl.
he doesnt seem to be in constant pain, only when there is pressure on his foot/feet. one of them seems ok, the other I rotated a little and he started whining.
I think my son would be in pain without the pressure there if his foot or ankle was broken, but he is not. should I take him to the hospital? I really dont see anything they can really do for him other then confirm that yes he has a sprained ankle and send him home and say he cant walk for x days/weeks.
my husband will insist he goes to the doctor either way, and I do, but I dont see the point if there really isnt anything they can do for him.
is there anything they can do for him? I am going to the hospital either way, but does this sound hospital worthy? I wont be taking him to the ER, but to urgent care.

Call his doctor and see if you can get squeezed in ASAP. If that's not an option, go to urgent care. Even though they might not be able to do anything about it, at least they will tell you what you can do about the pain and how long he has to stay off the ankle.

thanks. went to urgent care, after x rays, its just a sprain. they gave us some ace bandages and he is now passed out.

yeah. he refuses to walk, so its good. he is crawling everywhere though, its so cute! haha. I miss when he used to crawl.

How long before your son would bear weight or walk on his ankle? My daughter sprained her ankle 3 days ago and I'm starting to worry because all she does is crawl.
