How many centimeters is it until they keep you?

I'm 36 weeks and last week doctor checked me and I was 2 cms.
I'm wondering how many centimeters are you before you go into actual labor
and how many centimeters is it before they like, keep you in the hospital?

It's more an being in active labor or not. You can sit at 3-4 cm's for weeks and they still wont admit you.
Usually they will do a cervix check, have you walk around for an hour and if you're cervix changed then they would keep you.

I want to say 4. I walked around at 3cm for like 3 weeks... O_O

my dr wont admit you unless you are contracting and dilating... so if you are at 4cms but not dilating she will give u the option of breaking your water or going home if you are past 39 weeks

My dr said 4, but when I went in for my 38 week check up I was 4 and she didn't admit me because I wasn't having regular contractions. I didn't go in until my water broke.

depends on if you are in active labor or not, I was admitted with my 1st when I was about 1cm, in active labor with broken water.

I was 6 cm for a week and they didn't keep me.

It all depends. When I went into the hospital at 40 weeks and 4 days I was 4 cm and they kept me. I was 35 months and 3 cm and in labor but they stopped the contractions.

When i went in with my last i had taken castor oil and it made me start having contractions i was dialated to a 4 and 50 % effaced and they kept me! i didnt progress alot but they came in a ruptured my water and from there is was only a matter of time but i think it just depends on the doctor and the hospital!

I'm walking around at a 4 (will be checked again tomorrow). They won't admit me until I'm in active labor, doesn't matter how far dilated I am.

castor oil works!?

*Sometimes* castor oil works, but it can make it very...ahem...messy for the doctor who's delivering. It messes with your intestines and bowel movements.
Delivering doctors don't usually appreciate it. Besides, it's gross!
