Don't do it all of a sudden I mean that's like taking away something you treasure just ALL OF A SUDDEN. It's a big shock to them, it's not a bad shock but it can be a terrible crying/screaming match for the both of you if done that way. Some kids are okay with doing it that way tho so it isn't something to just not try but here's my suggestion...
Take it away slowly, start with at meal times give him juice water or milk in a sippy cup, then when he/she gets the hang of that and shows signs of being okay with it, then offer the sippey cup when thirsty but still offer the comforting bottle before bed. Once he/she is okay with THAT then take the bottle away completely. Good luck =)

Thank you he gets the sippy cup every now and then but it is true when he wants to go a sleep he want the bottle.

Seriously it may be frustrating for the first couple of days, but the only way I was able to do it was throw the bottles in the garbage outside so you can not go back and get them!! Soft spout sippy cups make it easier for them to make the transition. Nuby cups at walmart worked for me and they are only like $1.50 per cup! The longer you wait the harder it will get.

exactly! Oh and the Nubbys are GREAT! Arieanna loves them and the soft top works very well! They even have ones that the top is almost just like a nipple so its a great transition!

pretend that there is no such thing as a bottle. Take it away..completely. Its the only way. Except my daughter is 2 and still uses it to go to sleep at night.

Hey Ladies. I just wanted to let you know that although the bottle may comfort the children and put them to bed you need to try to stop that as well. I am a dental hygienist and I see many cases of what is called "baby bottle tooth decay" The poor children get cavities from the milk. If you must give them a bottle then I suggest only putting water in it at night.

My son is three... and he uses sipppy cup during the day but when he needs to go to sleep or wake up he wants the bottle. I mean all moms have their ways.. none is wrong or right.. we all were raaised differently.. like me for example.. I bottle fed until I was 10!!! YEAUP!! Really really.. braces?.. Never needed them.. tooth decay?.. Well duh after I was a adult.. but nothing bad with my teeth. It's totally up tp you I just think that taking it away abruptly is too tragic for them.. I agree that you should like give him jiuce and stuff in sippy cup to get him get the hang of it.. and slowly use the bottle less and less. My son had everything together.. I was driving myself nuts trying to potty train him I mean he is 3... but my BFF told me to buy him cute underwear that he chooses w/ cartoons he likes and it worked like magic. So now I'm working on the bottle.. but he has improved 2 times a day?..Thats a lot better than a month ago where he even drinked water in it ya know?.. So slow but steady I'd say. Of course this is just an opinion you give and take. Good luck .
