posted 11th Jan '12
Hiya, I'm finding it really difficult to stop wanting that couple of puffs of a cigarette I do really well all day and dot have any, but as soon as I get home from work I'm craving for that smoke. I'm ratty and horrible. Anyone been throught this and got passed it or can I have some scare tactics that need to sink in and frighten me so much I won't even dare pick a lighter up

Please help x

get one of those little coffee stir stick thingys that look like little straws.....plug your nose and breathe through the straw thing for a couple minutes. That will give you an idea of what life is like in the end stages of COPD.

Good luck, I hope you are successful!

I went for a little while without wanting any at all once I quit, but I got to the point where I wanted to smoke all the time. I took one hit off my SO's cigg and it just wasn't the same. The taste especially. Although no smoking at all would be better, I found that letting myself have that one hit stopped me from thinking about it and I felt so guilty afterwards I didn't want to do it again.

Are you a heavy smoker? If so, please don't quit cold turkey, cut back. I am a heavy smoker and attempted cold turkey a few days ago. The first 24 hours were OK but day 2 was a nightmare. I got the chills, broke out in hives all over, was cramping, crying, screaming, etc. It was literally the worst experience.

If you are a light smoker, still just cut back until you can wean yourself off. Nicotine withdrawal is serious business.

I smoked about 10-15 a day depending. If I was with my friends I'd smoke more and that's what's getting to me, at work all day I'm fine its the cigarette after my tea wgich is difficult. I don't enjoy a full one just a half or a couple of puffs and I'm ok, but if I don't have one being moody anyway I'm 10 x as bad or at least feel it. God knows how the other half has stayed so patient with me x

Ok i well i smoke and i still smoke i am 27 weeks i found that when i didnt smoke my baby wouldnt move at all but when i had that cigarette he started moving again. My mom told me not to quit just keep it under 5 smokes a day. My friend was a heavier smoker and she found out she was pregnant so she quit cold turkey and lost the baby at 17 weeks.

Oh dear   I'm sure ill be ok just a couple of puffs, I'm so scared something will go wrong or the baby won't be right and so stupidly worried about what it will look like and if ill cause any damage. I think the stress and worry about trying to stop will be worse xx

I have smoked for 8 years, Since i was 14. During my first preg. my doctor told me DO NOT go cold turkey, The withdraw symptoms can cause you to lose the baby. I am 31 weeks with my second baby and still smoke, but i dont chain smoke or even smoke more than about 10 a day. But if you are a smoker and just stop it can have worse affects. My first son was 6 lbs 3.2 oz and healthy as a horse. He was 25 lbs at 6 months! they are telling me this baby will be larger- even though i still smoke

Relax momma your doing great!!!!! Ive heard smoking only really causes lower birth rate. But thats a huge debat in itself. Just think a couple puffs relaxes you but causing stress for baby if you worried about it all the time. Your not awful i still smoke too. Your not the only one. Its not that we are selfish its just really hard and i would hate to stress over something and cause baby more pain then to pick up a cigarette and relax.

If your constipated eat lots of fibre!!!!!!!!!! Drink lots of fluids as well. Folic acid is the main thing but i have been taking Materna and it has all the vitimins you need for baby in case your diet is missing a vitimin that you might not be getting
