Question/mild concern on 2 month development.

posted 8th Apr
I didn't wanna take over another thread that listed some milestones (and an adorable baby girl), but one in particular caught my eye, simply because Danny's own preferences for looking around have had me thinking lately.

"Prefers the human face to other shapes" - By the end of one month.

Now, when Danny's laying on his back in the playpen, he loves his nutso parents making funny faces and noises and smiling at him. But the second we pick him up, every time without fail, his head turns to the side, usually to his right. And we'll turn him around so he can see whatever he's trying to look at, but he keeps it turned, almost as though he had a stiff neck. He has no problems (from my point of view) turning his head the other direction, and after calling his name a couple times we /might/ be lucky enough for him to turn and look at whomever is holding him, but usually not for long. I've heard babies prefer to look at whatever source of light is around, it certainly seems so with our little one, but even when we turn him towards the light he's trying to look at, he'll keep his head turned.

I guess in a nutshell, whenever we hold him it's difficult for us to get him to make eye contact, although this is never a problem when he's in his crib, bouncy chair, or playpen. Only when we're holding him. Any thoughts?

ARE WE BORING???? Just kidding >.>

I wouldn't worry about it. Kairie is the same way, everything, including the wall, are SO much more interesting than we are. lol. She's 6 months old & it still takes A LOT to get her to look at whoever is holding her.

She loves observing whats around her, I don't blame her, I wouldn't wanna stare at our mugs all the time either.

..xD :You have a good point there. I guess when he's on his back he has really no other option but to look up and there's momma and papa. Although he loves analyzing his colorful stuffed clown and will put himself to sleep staring at his huuuuge mirror in there xD

I'm paranoid about his mental developement. He's such a strong and healthy kid, after such a great pregnancy, I'm expecting the worst to come and kick me and his dad in the ass X_x

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. It sounds pretty normal to me. Will was the same way, whenever we'd pick him up there was something waaaaaay more interesting to look at than boring old mom and dad. But when he was on his back, we had his undivided attention.

Hehe..talking about my little girl are we? And thank you for saying she is adorable. But, dont worry about that milestone, every baby has its own pace, if he doesnt start making eye contact soon just let his doctor know.

I know I am way behind on this one but I just wanted to put my two cents in. It sounds ok but....have you had his two month checkup yet? Just to be safe, have your pedi evaluate for torticollis. In a nushell, its the stiffening of the neck muscles. At two months, we started to notice him looking one direction but by three months when the pedi caught it, we were in PT and still are at 7 1/2 months. I don't want to scare you but don't want another mom stuck in the loop we are.

O_O Will certainly have her take a look at that, his two month is coming up quick. Need to check the calendar X_x

Thanks for letting me know, and I really hope your little man is able to recover soon!
