Two questions

posted 9th Jan '12
I have two questions.

1. What would you recommend, the abortion pill or the surgical procedure?

2. How long is the healing/recovering period? I mean, how long should one stay home from work to fully heal?

Thanks.

It'd depend on how far along the person is. The pill only works until 8 weeks, I believe. After that, the only option is surgical.

I can't say for certain the recovering period but I've seen some people return to work the day of one and others take a few days off (i.e. do it over a weekend)

How exactly does the abortion pill work? I'm curious..

I have heard many women prefer the surgical because it is quick and sedation makes the procedure itself painless. With the pill though you can go through it in the privacy of your own home. There are pro's and con's to both. Good luck on your decision!

If you're worried about missing work I'd probably go with the surgical one since it's only one visit and less bleeding afterward.

It's a two pill method that "forces" your body to miscarry. It's a longer process than the surgical but as I stated before it is carried out in the comfort of your own home.

Okay thanks cause I never knew what it exactly made your body do... .

It makes your body shed the lining of your uterus taking anything attached to it with it.

I had the surgical one, and mine appeared to be NOTHING like others because I didn't do any IV medications or anything, I took a uterus softening pill, hour later laid down on "operating table" but really it's just like a hard dentist chair that reclines fully, feel suction and cramping, walk out to recovery room. Drink some 7-up and cookies, wait 15 minutes to make sure I'm okay. Walk out to parking lot, resume normal life with brutal period.

Another girl in the same recovery room got the IV that doesn't stop the pain but like distorts you so you can't focus on whats going on. She was there for like 30 minutes because she was a bit out of it. "hazy" as she said.

I think I'd prefer to not be out of it or hazy. I was out for a few days just having my wisdom teeth removed.

Yeah, I don't like IV's they suggested I take it because it's apparently traumatizing to some, which I can appreciate but I was pretty confident and my decision to abort so I was okay with it. I don't know that I would suggest it to someone who was unsure about their decision, because you can feel him insert the vacuum and even though it's mostly what you "think you feel" I was pretty certain I felt him sucking everything out. But TBH I'm not even 100% sure they do suck everything out.

But recovery seems to be 100000 times better, I had Brooke to take care of when I got home, and I've truly had worse period cramps.

That makes me feel better. Thanks.

Of course, talk to me anytime if you want. But I'm not the best person to talk to because I think of the whole thing as more... technical (?) I guess you could say, than most. I didn't experience a lot of the emotional side effects it seems a lot of people do.

I don't even for sure know if I'm pregnant. I thought my period started last week, but I only bled for a day and it was very very light. All the tests say negative but I'm going in for a blood test on Wednesday. I'm usually very regular. Blah.
