Pregnant after a preemie

Anyone ever have a a preemie and then get pregnant again within that year?

I had my baby at 35 weeks, she's now (basically) 5 months old. I found out Christmas Eve that I'm pregnant again, even though we were preventing it.

Anyone know what the odds are of this baby making it to term? I'm SO scared of another preemie...I got lucky that nothing was wrong with Kati.

they say you are more apt to have a preemie the second time around but alot of it depends on why you had her early.... IMO its not THAT lucky that she didnt have anything wrong with her.. she was 2 weeks away from being considered term... most babies dont have any problems just temproary issues they need help with... i would talk to your dr...

My first was born at 33 weeks. Got pregnant with my second four months later and she was born at 36 weeks.

Yep.. I had my son at 35 weeks and got pregnant again when he was 4/5 months old.. I had my daughter at 37 weeks but it was a planned c-section she probably would have stayed in longer.

Your odds of having a preemie are higher after having 1 preemie. They are also higher by getting pregnant within 6 months of having a baby, and less, but still higher then normal within a year.

That being said, it all really depends on WHY you had your baby early. Was it a condition that's likely to occur again? A fluke? Really you just don't know. 35 weeks isn't THAT early though, so odds are good you'll be fine.

My water broke, that's why I had her early.

I guess I should also throw in that my kids tend to come earlier each time. My oldest daughter was born at 37 weeks, my son at 36 weeks, and then the baby at 35 weeks.

I know there's no way to know for sure, I'm waiting to get into my doctor to see what she thinks.

I have no idea. I just know that I went into preterm labor with my two oldest at 35 weeks and it was stopped, but this last time around I didn't have a choice.

I've been told by a few doctors that all 3 of my kids are considered preemies because they were all born before 38 weeks.

thats weird cuz here if you have a baby at 37 weeks the NICU said they dont considered them premature... and i read in my baby book that 37 to 42 is the range for full term... but who knowsssss everyone has diff definitions


the reason i asked is because my membrains have been bulging for almost 5 weeks and they have broken yet... so i just through it was strange that yours seemed to have broken so easily.

Generally, anything before 37 weeks is preemie (so 36 weeks 6 days and below). Also, LOTS of places wont even try to stop labor at 34 weeks or more along.

If the problem is your water breaking there isn't a lot they can do. You could try bedrest at that point (say, 34 weeks), but most of the things they do to help prevent preemies are often stopped at 34-35 weeks. There are risks to them, and the risks to a 34 weeker even are not that great really. That isn't to say there aren't some, but there are not as many as a lot of the meds and stuff to stop labor.

how did your first do???? im facing having a 29 weeker or older lol idk when hes comming but im 28 and 6 today.

She's turning 2 this month. She's great. No health problems now, she's all caught up. She's wonderful. It was a rough road, don't get me wrong. But she's good now.

I had Lexi and got pregnant when she turned a year old and Ian was over due.

I got pregnant 16 months after having my 34 seeker and had ptl issues earlier than I did with her (started at 18 weeks instead of 23 weeks) and my water developed a leak in it at 27 weeks. I also at some point developed a 20% placental abruption that pregnancy at the end and it went undetected... developed a slight infection and gave birth at 28 weeks to a stillborn. I found out just 3 months pp that my Mirena didn't work, so now I'm pregnant again... my Drs are starting me on progesterone suppositories to help with my ptl issues and to help prevent my water from breaking early again, and I'm being considered for a cerclage. Yes I had my daughter at 33 weeks but never new why I had her so early she was I the nicu for about two months but just because she was born early but she was healthy just had jundice. Then I got pregnant rigth away with my son and I was in high risk with him just because my daughter was a preemie baby and I had a short cervix at 24 weeks I rupture and I was in the hospital for two months getting treated so my baby could stay in me a little longer but then I gain an effection that they made me go into labour at 33 weeks and I was actually in labour when my daughter was turning 1   my daughter and son are only 1year and 1 day apart March 26 And March 27. They are 1 and 2

My son been having a lot of complications with yes health but doing much better now....
