penile adhesion

posted 6th Apr '08
just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this..my 5 month old son was circumsized before we ever left the hospital and used the plastibell...at 1 month old, the doctor noticed penile adhesion on one side where the skin grew back some to the penis...he pulled it apart and it hurt sooo bad...we applied vaseline to it pretty often after that to prevent it from growing back together..
well it seems like it just keeps growing back together..our new pediatrician says it shouldnt be pulled apart (like what the previous pedi did)..just to put vaseline on it to help soften the skin..

i'm just wondering..what can be done about this to help it??? will it cause problems??? will my baby's penis look funny or not be able to grow like it should or be painful one day when he has larger erections? when is surgery necessary? i certainly dont want it to get to that point..
im just a little concerned about this..so i'd really like to hear any input or stories from anyone who has any! thanks ladies!

Well my son is younger then yours, three months but his keeps doing that too. My doctor told me to pull down the skin with every diaper change and keep vasaline on it as well. If I do that then she told me it should be ok otherwise he may need surgery to fix it.

we were told to pull the skin back also. With every diaper change pull it back to clean it of course...The dr said she would pull it back if we didn't feel comfortable...I do believe if the skin adheres more to one side it could cause it to be a little crooked...it seems like maybe a nurse told me that?

we try to pull it back with most diaper changes too but after a month or so we didnt think we still needed to worry about it as much....so we didnt make as much effort for a while...

Were dealing with this right now too. His circumcision wasn't done right, pretty much partially done. The whole underside of his penis never looked like it had been circumcised and the top side did. The underside has also always had this huge chunk of skin almost like a little ball of skin.We were never told to do anything to it except the vasaline and gauze pads while it healed after that we were told just to leave it alone. We went through a few crappy doctors too. Anyway his pediatrician told me at his 6 month visit that he might start having erections andit might get sore. I hadn't noticed anything till this week. At a diaper change when he was all red almost like it was infected and it hurt him pretty bad, the previous diaper change it was fine. I took him to the doctor the next day and she said that it was starting to rip. Either from him having an erection or when we cleaned him we pulled the skin to far back and the sores from it ripping were getting infected. I couldn't believe it would get that infected that soon. He has a sunken penis, I know a medically correct term for that, but I can't think of it. Basically since he is a big man and has a huge fat pad it makes his penis sink in pretty much making him look like he hardly has one. We think that is why it got infected so quick. She has never said anything about surgery, but she did say after he was one they would look at him and decide to redo his circumcision, I don't know if that is what everyone is talking about. Right now he is on a cream antibiotic for the infectin that started and something else to help with the irritation and I have to alternate each diaper change.

oh that sounds sooooo painful and i'm so sorry your lil boy is goin thru that!!
mine hasnt seemed to experience any pain with it..but when i pull the skin back, i can see that notall of the "head" of the penis is right..like it isnt the same skin on the whole head...the shaft skin connects to the head skin at the wrong place..so you cant see the whole head well..i'm sure you know what i mean lol.. its hard to find the right words for it lol..he hasnt really had any soreness or infection...even when he has erections it doesnt seem to be a problem yet. you just cant see the whole outline of the head of his penis, where it "mushrooms" out and connects to the shaft- you cant really see that part but you can feel and tell its under the skin..i just worry about it being a problem eventually..i know we'll look at daddy's to compare, so i just know its not right..yunno..
the first pedi had pulled it apart and torn the skin, but even tho we kept putting vaseline on it, it still grew back eventually...
plastibell is supposed to be easy..but i didnt know this could be a problem yunno?
the first pedi acted like almost all little boys end up having some penile adhesion- well why dont they warn us about it or tell us how to help prevent this"?????!!

my son has the same thing, and apperantly it is commin enough that it wont be a problem in the locker room.

My doctor said it will detach itself by the time he is 3/5 and if not for sure by the time he hits puberty. I would not have the doctor rip it apart, it will just keep reattaching. It is a bigger problem if they take to much skin, than to be left with a little extra.

My older son was circumcised...in theory. He basically still has full foreskin. Sometimes it will 'glue' itself to his head. We had a pedi that told us to pull it back (even once it stuck). Then I read online that this can cause a skin bridge. We pulled it back one last time, cleaned it and no have our son maintain it

Just like any full-foreskinned boy that might have adhesion, it will eventually get pulled back. I've heard horror stories from guys who were intact that got it ripped back during sex or foreplay. OUCH!

i had some friends who tried to get freaky during thier lunch hour. well tim (uncircumcised) tried to put it in too fast before his girlfreind was "ready" down there and it ripped his foreskin! they had to call their supervisor and tell them they were going to the hospital for a personal problem. he came by and saw tim standing there with a bloody t shirt on his crotch!!!
