Loss?

posted 4th Apr
So, today is day three of my official diet starting day. Although I was not overeating previously, I wasn't doing anything to lose it, either. So, I pose this question because I am really confused. Is it possible, when eating fewer calroies, to drop a couple of puonds within a couple of days and have them be noticeable when putting on clothes? My pants are baggy on me today :-\ I found it odd for me to have possibly already lost some of my weight. Unless my earlier eating habits combined with my recent weight loss plan just worked together and I have dropped weight.

Ah! I'm so confused!

Maybe your tummy shrunk a little since you're eating less?

yes...it is very possible. i got a really bad kidney infection a couple of years ago and all i did was cut out cokes and i dropped like 30 lbs in one month...just from cutting out the cokes. it is very possible to lose a few pounds in a few days....although rapid weight loss is usually not healthy.

It takes me about two weeks to notice a change how my pants fit from diet alone (unless it's related to swelling). Stomach you notice immediately. If you're exercising you'll notice a change in shape as early as 3 days, though normally it's from putting muscle on (the fat hasn't had time to budge.)

I'm just worried because I know rapid weight loss isn't normally very healthy and that is not my intent at all. I was okayed by my doctor for this diet. She said 1500 calories since I wasn't breastfeeding would be fine and help the weight loss along. But what bothers me is the thought it's going too fast and I'll put it all back on. I am eating VERY healthy and haven't even started an exercise routine beyond housework and kids just yet. I start that on Monday.

I know I should be happy, but I am scared I am going to drop too much weight too quickly and put it all back on :-\

If you're not purposely dropping it so fast, you probably won't have a problem with it all piling back on. That normally results from a feeling of deprivation, sounds like you're just lucky!

True. See, my concern comes from my mother. When she was around 26 she had her last baby, my youngest sister, Amber. After that, she got on these diet pills called Diet Pep. Between that and vomting (she was bulimic (sp?) she seriously dropped SERIOUS MAD weight. She went from 220 all the way down to like 120 at 5'9". She was super thin. Now she is extremely heavy set and cannot take it off because she jacked up her metabolism being stupid. I DO NOT want to be that way.

See, I am a heavy set girl. When I was younger, just before puberty and during, especially, I was put on Prednisone for my asthma. HIGH doses. I gained super weight and wasn't able to take it all off over the years. Then I got pregnant 9 months before my 18th birthday and just started gaining weight from there and never taking it off.

I am now 240 (I am so, so, SO fortunate I don't look quite THAT heavy) and just barely 5'5" I am a size 20 pants. Those 20s, as of today are bagging off my normally big ass and over my belly. I don't want to screw up my metabolism and be unhealthy at 40 something years old :-\

Yes. when you first start a diet you can lose pounds fast. like 10 pounds in a week or 2. after the first few weeks your body begins to lose the normal amount of weight. about 1-3 pounds a week or none at all sometimes. If you contiune to lose for a long period maybe up your calorie intake a bit.

Since you are a bit over weight the pounds will come off quickly at first. Then it slows down .Once you start getting to a healhtier weight it becomes harder to lose thouse last 10-30 pounds. As long as you eat healthy then you should be fine .DO NOT take diet pills!!! they will mess you up and they get addicting. Alos don't get to involved with your weight loss. Don't think about it all the time. It will make you want to lose more and more and it can turn to binging and purging or not eating for days. If you do take anyhting to help with weight loss try those fish oil pills, green tea (with hoodia if you want) and vitamin B. You can also take a multi vitamin. I found that crystal light and those special K water mixes help. They are full of flavor, can help curb your hunger, and go great with a light salad or half sandwich

I don't ever plan on taking diet pills. There is absolutely NO reason to if you can control your eating habits. I feel great with the diet I've picked up. I'm eating every couple of hours and I'm not hungry at all after like 10 at night, like I normally would be. My biggest downfall was eating when Richard got home at 4 in the morning from work. I don't have the urge anymore because I'm not hungry at that hour. I spend the whole day actually eating. And not junk food, either. I have a menu set out before me and go from there.

I don't let it consume me. My main goal is to get down to a size 12-14, where I was when I was about 14 years old. I was comfortable at that weight and since I naturally have big hips, it's doubtful I'd get smaller than that, anyway. I have a goal, and I am hoping to reach it by the end of the year. I think I can manage it :-D Thanks everyone for the advice, though! I don't feel so worried now!

It sounds like you know what you're doing and are being smart about it.   I have big hips too. I'm 5'8" and have never been smaller than a size 10 since about 6th grade. I was very overweight then but even at 140 I couldn't go smaller. My hip bones were sticking out and I was just like "what the hell. i just want to be under double digits for once in my life!" lol. But everyone has a different body and carries the weight differently. I understand now that its not the numbers on my jeans or the scale that counts. its about how i feel when i look in the mirror.

EXACTLY! I told my husband the other day all I want is to walk into a store, see a shirt I like and be able to grab it off the rack, buy it, and know when I get home it's going to fit comfortably. I want to feel comfortable in my clothes. That's all. I don't need to be skinny, it's just not going to happen. I just want to feel GOOD!

I think it may just be water weight. For me I normally notice rapid weight loss in the first couple weeks and then it slows waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down. If you're doing it "right" you don't have anything to worry about

Well, I thought maybe water weight, but I don't think so anymore. I generally lose, when I am on this diet (I was on it before Drake made a surprise debut in my womb lol) about 2 - 4 pounds a week. I was doing great before I found out I was pregnant. I only gained about five pounds back, too, so that is a relief. We'll see what happens. I am hoping to lose about 15-20 pounds by the end of July. I don't think that's too out there, you know?

I don't think that's out there at all. My goal right now is to loose almost 20 by the end of May (don't think it's going to happen but that's my goal, lol)
