Pain in cervix?

posted 31st Mar '08
Has anyone else experienced pain in their cervix during pregnancy? I didnt with Timothy but I am with this one since I was 8 weeks, I'm 21 weeks now and still feel it, sorta like a sharp pain.
I told my doc at 12 weeks and he put me on disability for a month to see if it went away, it kinda did but then I went back to work since my insurance coverage stopped and I havent seen him since to get an update... just wondering if anyone else felt this and what it was.
Thank
Nichole

Is it like a sharp shooting pain or constant? Either way I have had both with both pregnancies. It didn't last all day but definitely was off and on. Hope you feel better soon.

i had that same pain, i think. lol. its hard to explain, but mine didnt happen all the time, just sometimes. like a shooting pain? i dont know what it was, but it stopped a couple of weeks ago. [i also stopped working at a stand up job, so i think that helped] i never told my doctor, because my mom told me she thought it was normal.

its sorta like a stabbing pain, you know when you get a pap and they use that little brush and stick it inside your cervix? sorta like that...really uncomfortable I'll feel it for about 20 sec and then not again for a min and then again and after about 5 min of that I wont feel it for a couple hours or so but it always comes back...

When I told my doc at 12 weeks he responded by asking me where I would say my cervix is?... Then he says that women usually say their tummy hurts or they are feeling cramps, that no one has ever said that their cervix hurts....
He didnt even check me, I have been worried that its because of an incompetant cervix...

Yeap same for me the way I described it to my doctor was a needle stabbin me   caz thats what it felt like to me. My doc said it was nerves caz the baby is shifting around and such and puttin presure down there and what not and really makin your nerves work with all that. She said best you can do is kinda lean back and relax, also kick your feet up if possible. Bananas and fruit helps it too.

Well thanks to all the ladies who posted, I appreciate you answering my question. It seems to be normal during pregnancy so that at least eases my minda bit.
Have a great night!

I think it's normal. The pain you feel down there sucks but is very common...from the sounds of it. It should go away, or at least be less frequent, until you get to the end. But from what you said it sounds exactly like what I had.

I have had those same kind of pains since I was 23 weeks, I am now 26. I talked to my boyfriends mom and she said its probably the ligaments in the stomach stretching or over exertion. But it might last through out the rest of the pregnancy or not depending on your daily activity. Hope you feel better.

Although sometimes the pain in your cervix may be normal, it always pays to have your provider take a look just in case. In my case I found out my pains were being caused by a very inflammed and ulcerated cervix. They are still not sure of the cause (preliminary culture was negative for infection) but obviously I am worried and hope all will be well. I am 33 weeks pregnant and just had a normal pap midway through my pregnancy. I am married & monogamous and have been for 6 years. Just want to make sure no one else ignores this type of pain when something could be going on. My pain is sharp, stabby, comes and goes, is worse with standing and laying down and when the baby moves (her kicks and punches hurt now, when before they did not

I just experienced these stabbing pains today as I was sitting at the computer and decided to look it up. This is my first pregnancy so I'm going crazy hoping that the baby is ok. I'm just over 7 weeks now. The advice about sitting back helped, they've stopped now. Seems like it's pretty normal though since other women have experienced the same thing?

I also have cervix pain. It is a sharp throbbing/shooting pain. I am told it is normal. Kegels usually help stop it. I have had it since I found out I was pregnant. I am now 12 weeks and it still comes and goes.
