Seizures in Newborns?

posted 30th Mar
Hi Ladies... I am probably over reacting, but I'm extremely worried, so I hope some of you can calm my nerves....
My son is 10 days old. When sleeping, he will all of a sudden start breathing really quickly, then his eyes will slightly open & I noticed his eyes will be rolled to the back of his head. I've researched it online, and have noticed its a sign of REM sleep... but I also noticed it could be a sign of seizures. Does anyone else have experience with this in their newborns?? He also has some of the strangest expressions when he's sleeping.... this being my first, I have no idea if this is normal.
Thanks so much for any advice in advance...

Lyric used to do that when he was little. It stopped when he was *almost* 2 months old.

It's perfectly normal!! It freaked me out with my oldest, too, and I asked his doctor about it. But the fact is they are just learning how to breathe. During their REM sleep, they tend to open their eyes and so you will see his eyes rolling in the back of his head. Why they do that I have NO idea. But, yes, it's normal...no seizure :-)

I remember being a new mommy vividly lol It's terrifying. The things no one EVER tells you is what gets you every time. I still was on edge with my other two following my oldest, but not nearly as bad. I knew a little bit more of what to expect and the things I forgot came back to me quickly.

It gets easier, trust me.
