Ya, as much as I try and get her to pet them she usually wants NOTHING to do with them.

yeah it's really hard to find a place that allows "dangerous" breeds

I have 3 dogs I would recommend for a family, a golden, swiss mountain dog and a st, bernard. My family use to breed/raise goldens so have grown up around them. I owned my girls daddy and my Zoey. My male was as dumb as a post but probably the best dog I have ever had. It was to bad he was hit and passed away before his time. Now my Zoey is great! I have had her since she was born and only have one major issue with her. She loves men. She threw me under the bus for my SO lol. Ever since my son was born she has never left his side. She is truly his best friend. She is 14 though and with her age have come some problems. Because she can't hear very well while she is sleeping you can't let babys startle her or she will snap. She gets grouchy with my other girls and think she is the boss so when one gets in trouble by mom she thinks that it is her job to enforce the punishment. This always ends with her getting hurt rather then the other 2.

My swissy is about 4 now but she will take a beating. I watch a 2 year old that will crawl, grab, pinch, pull, sit and everything else to her and she just lays there with a little smile on her face. The only problem we had with her was that it took her about 3 years to be potty trained fully. That is a breed standard though. If you don't want to deal with 3 years of potty training then dont get a swiss!!

My youngest is a 100 pound 11 month old St. Bernard. She is like no puppy I have ever had to deal with. She really is a gentle giant. She is everything I have ever heard about this breed, smart lazy, loves kids, and protective of her family. She would never do any bodily harm to anyone but with such a big dog and such a fearsome bark it would make anyone think twice before they entered my house. Also she is the biggest lap dog ever!! I will put a picture of her trying to sit on the chair with my SO. I love it!! I can't wait to see what it will look like when she reaches her full weight of 175-200 pounds  My girl is a very easy keeper. She is the german standard of the breed, which is the true standard, with short hair or smooth coat and a dry mouth. This breed of bernards I think is the only way to go.

Aww <3 st bernards!!! I dated a guy who raised them and they were always so gentle   I hope I can find a breeder around here.

Well if you wanted to wait and travel for a st. bernard we are going to breed ours when she turns 2 lol. Not every one is as crazy as my family though. We drove about 3.5hrs just to get ours.

For the right price we would definatly drive a few hours. I think we are planning on getting him or her after my husbands bonus (in Feb I believe)

German shepherds can be extremely good family dogs. They are protective but very gentle with kids and will even herd them if they start wandering. American breed can be a little calmer than german breed. I have 3 shepherds and they have even laid by the crib protecting it when strangers have come over. But will go play ball or just run around at the park. Shepherds are usually calm in the house as wel, laying around till you want them to do something.

Our Bull Mastiff is amazing.... He's great with the cat the kids and evryone else. Doesnt bark or jump up and is sooo gentle
