awake during an abortion...

my bestfriend is going to have an abortion this friday and she says they're not going to put her to sleep during the procedure. that sounds so awful and dangerous. has anyone ever had a surgical abortion not being put to sleep, if so.. what was it like?

I didn't know they put you to sleep for them ?
unless it was a d &c for medical reasons.

i was under the impression they just give you like a local, i havent had one so i wouldnt really know.

A friend of mine was awake. She said it was quick but hearing the auctioning from the machiene smurfed with her seriously. She regrets still but she was 15 at the time so...

I took the pill and so I was "awake" for mine. But I had a surgery that was pretty much exactly what would have happened had I had a surgical abortion, and I hated being put under. The meds messed with me and I developed a horrible cough after. If it were me and I wasn't very far along, Id opt for the pill and stay awake. Being put under is the crappiest feeling ever.

It's normal to be awake.

Most people aren't put under for the procedure.

Yeah..
Being put under is more risky than not. General anesthesia comes with it's own set of risks.
And bleeding out is pretty rare during abortions.

The bleeding isn't that bad and what would being put under due to prevent that anyhow?

Statistically there are more complications after child birth than after an abortion.
