mommas with babies born at 37 weeks..

posted 29th Mar
I'm almost 37 weeks (I will be Monday) and I've been having contractions (just waiting on them to get stronger and closer together)... 2 weeks ago when my doctor last checked me I was 50% effaced but not dilated.. Anyway, my mom has been freaking out because she is worried about me having my son at 37 weeks and not 40+.. I know the longer he is in there the better but can someone please give me some peace of mind by sharing your labor stories/pics/sharing how your baby was born at 37 weeks and is a healthy baby?? It would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!

37 weeks the lungs are generally mature babe and baby will be fine. I had my baby at 38 weeks and she was 3 times the maturity level needed for lungs to survive fine.

Thanks foryour reply.. I've just been so worried but I guess they don't consider 37 weeks full term for nothing right?

My first daughter was born at almost 37 weeks. She was born the day after my baby shower. She couldnt wait to get to her gifts!! lol I was having contractionsthat startedfriday afternoon, my baby shower was on that saturday and I had her sunday evening. They didnt try to stop my contractions because my water was leaking. Only bad thing was I had to go home one day with out her because she couldnt mantain a normal body temp. So its worth the extra 2 or 3 week wait=] But other than that ur baby will be healrhy=] BTW my daughter was 5 lbs 15 oz (small) and was 18 in

Thank you for your stories and pictures ladies.. It puts my mind at ease a little bit...I was told at my 30 week ultrasound that he weighed 3 pounds (but you know how that goes) how much should your baby weigh around 30 weeks anyways?

My son was born a day before 37 weeks. He came out weighing 5lbs and 11 ounces. Though he did have to be placed on an oxygen mask over night he was healthy as a horse. Now he weighs a little over 6lbs.

with the way im goin...my kid wont be here til 42 weeks prolly

i think you'll be fine. so many girls on here started having contractions and dilating around the time u are now...and they still havn't had their babies and their close to their due dates now. unless its a medical emergancy, they can usually find a way to keep the baby in their longer if needed

i have never had even ONE contraction, and i barely even get BH contractions.
sometimes i forget im even pregnant

I'm getting induced at 37 weeks and she is getting surgery as soon as she's born..so I'm assuming that they are pretty matured at that age.   Everything will be fine!! Good luck!

Hi!
Don't worry! Your baby will be fine. My baby was born at exactly 37 weeks because my waters broke at exactly week 36, so I was kept waiting for 1 week on antibiotics. He was born with 6.8 pounds and looking great! The bad part is that I had to be induced and so it was not natural. I had no contractions whatsoever and they stimulated me with drugs and that was hard work for both of us, so we were exhausted afterwards. That made us have problems with breast feeding. Had I known it was o.k. to breastfeed and then top up with formula milk he would have not had to go to hospital because of jaundice (dehydration) just 5 days later. So just careful with feeding. Make sure he or she gets enough milk, whether it is yours, bottle feeds or both.
Take care and all will be fine!

38 weeks is considered full term...although some doctors do consider 37 weeks full term. Making it to 40 weeks doesn't happen very often. And making it past 40 weeks is just cruel.   I wouldn't worry. My first was born at 39 weeks, and my second at 38 weeks. I'm sure you and your baby will be fine.
