Hi, my son was also born at 32 weeks in2005, in Belgium, with several complications one being epilepsy. They called it convulsions. He also had a bleeding in brain and the grey massa's were damaged and we were told to prepare ourselves for the worst in the first week. We were even told that he would not recover and would have some degree of handicap - motoric etc. I am glad to say they were so wrong!!!!
Well, every kind of medication was tried on him and in the end, only Sabril worked for him. He stayed in NICU for 2 months and continued on Sabril for another 6 months with EEG controls every month. A final MRI was done after stopping the medication. It was still under experiment at that time but now it is accepted. I don't know about it in the US but you can check with the doctors. Do not worry too much, i know it is very hard... but try to take one day at a time. Emiel had to go for kinesis theraphy till he was about 1 year old. He had very stiff muscles(hypertonus). With lots of patience and training, your child will get better. Withgod's grace and the power of all the prayers,Emiel will be celebrating his 3rd birthday tomorrow. He does not have any signs of being born as a preemie and he is even 'smarter' for his age group...
So please do what the doctor say but do not agree on everything. Try to stay calm and positive, pray!!! Pray with your boy, put your hands on him and pray.
I'm am not going to say that everything will be alright as that will be giving false hopes but i will keep youand your family in my prayers. Keep us updated.
