Quoting Mommy Mic:" My whole entire body is scarred. I survived a house explosion in 2006 when I was 17 years old. My scars ... [snip!] ... I chose this image because you can really see my scars, and a lot of people call the ones on my back my "angel wings.""
Wow that's amazing mama! So glad you survived.

I got my scars from having a surgery to take out part of my pancreas and spleen. I would've died had they not found the cysts in my pancreas that were causing me so much pain and not allowing me to eat. I also had a feeding tube for many months.
The first pic is a week and a half after my surgery, the second two are what they look like now.

Starsha - 31
*Self-Injury Trigger Warning*
I have scars all over my body. The most visible are the ones on my arms. I used to self-injure. Most of the cuts healed but some of my most severe injuries have left permanent scars. I haven't cut in something like 8 years. My scars are beautiful because they remind me of where I come from. A wise person once said, "You should never curse your past, because your past is the road that has led you here and made you the person you are today." I am not the same person that I was back then, but without those experiences I believe I would be a much different person today.... and I really kind of like myself now!!!

I did self injury as well as burning and I am scarred all over my body as well. Somedays its hard to deal with but most of the time it reminds me not to go back to that place I was in before. I was actually going to cover up the scars on my arms with tats but I am still undecided for that.

I thought about getting tattoos at one time, but I kind of like them. They are significant. I survived myself, so to speak.

I'm going to be a counselor, so it is my hope that some of my clients will look at my arms and know that, in some way, I understand their pain.

I was going to be a psychiatrist but I just cannot stand people.. The friends I had that taught me what cutting was hurt themselves because their parents 'hated' them... I asked one of them what there parent did that was so bad and she was like they are just sooo nosey.. they keep budding in and wanting to know everything.. I wish they would just leave me alone.. I was like -_-. I just couldn't do it. So I decided to go with computer science instead.

I had a psychiatrist tell me I wasn't serious and just wanted attention because my cuts weren't that bad (because I was trying not to cut myself). It got worse after that and I was hospitalized... then about a year went by and I still cut but secretively and I was raped and in an abusive relationship.... that was when I hit rock bottom... Some mental health professionals shouldn't be. For real!

I'm really interested in building self-esteem in young children and adolescents... especially surrounding body image.

i have 14 scars on my body,3 my left leg,one on each hip,3 on my head and 6 on my right leg.All from surgeries.
i have Neurofibromatosis Type 1,it makes my fibula and tibia in my right leg grow like a S and causes tumors to grow on my periphial nerves.
Drs tried to repair it by taking my hip bones out and replacing my fibula and tibia with a hip bone and a metal rod.this procedure was done 3 times in a span of 4 years. So i made the decision at 7 years old to have a below the knee amputation.
i have had 8 surgeries to remove large amounts of tumors,my last surgery 7 tumors were removed from my forehead.and i have had one cancer scare from a tumor the size of a banana embedded in my thigh muscle
All my scars are beautiful because they make me ME!
if i hadnt been through all the surgeries and pain i dont know who i would be.My husband accepts me for who i am regardless of my disease and for that i am so grateful.
-also LO has shown no signs of having it

Wow, this is a great contest!
And all of your stories are amazing!

I'm not going to enter this contest, because you can't even really see my scars anymore.
But when I was 17, DH (boyfriend at the time) and I were in a bad car accident where we flipped across the interstate 3 times. Due to a pot hole that wasn't fixed.
Neither of us were horribly injured. My face got cut up really bad, although they have lightened up A LOT, my scars still remind me of that day...and how blessed we both are to be here.
My chin has 4 scars on it, right above my top lip on the right side there is a big scar where my teeth went through my lip. My nose has a scar across it....my right cheek had a huge gash from my eye down to my chin and my forehead has a few smaller scars. This picture doesn't show them very well, but they're there. And there are also a lot of scars through out my body from cuts, but the face was where all the major cuts/gashes were.

I will not be entering this contest because you cannot see my scar in any of my pictures...When I was 11, my brothers and I got in a car accident, we were T-Boned on the highway, the other driver ran into us going 65+ miles per hour. I was in the middle of a 3 seater truck, and had only a lap belt on...My head hit either the cup holder or the dashboard, and it cracked my head open. My oldest brother took his shirt off and wrapped it around my head to stop the bleeding, and he saved my life that day. I ended up being hospitalized for 3 days and got 86 stitches in my forehead, alone. Any lower on my eye lid and I would have lost sight in my left eye. I'm a very lucky girl...When I was younger, I resented my parents for not getting me plastic surgery at the time of the accident...but to this day, I wouldn't change my scar for anything in the world...it reminds me how lucky I am and how absolutely amazing my brother is!
