Stripping Membranes at 36 weeks

posted 16th Nov '11
Next week my doctor is planning on stripping my membranes at 36 weeks. I am pretty nervous because I hear its really painful. She wants to get me going because my pregnancy has had alot of complications. Though she says if my body and baby are not ready nothing will happen. So may have to get stripped a few times Hoping everything goes well.

IMO its ridiculous to be attempting any sort of "induction" of labour A MONTH EARLY. Sorry but if your pregnancy was THAT complicated you would ACTUALLY be getting induced.

If you are not having life threatening issues (pre eclampsia etc) then sorry but that's selfish. Children are NOT ready to be born a month early, if they were then pregnancy wouldn't be 40 weeks..it would be 36.

what kind of complications that you need your membranes stripped at 36weeks?? If it was a TRUE complication then they'd just induce you and not wait.

babies are considered full term at 37 weeks though...so technically you don't have to wait 40 weeks...

The point is that pregnancy is 40 weeks. Obviously you SHOULD wait the 40 weeks... If pregnancy only needed to be 37 then it would be. Its 40 weeks (on average) for a reason.

You signed up for pregnancy. That means 40 weeks. Deal.

And honestly..just glancing at OPs past. Posts the only "complications" she's having is heartburn ,pain and stress   so in other words..pregnancy.

the baby is perfectly fine at 37 weeks though ijs...I have to be induced at 37-38 weeks if it was such an issue I doubt it would be done

If theres a problem then yes its okay to do..but the point is, 40 weeks is what nature intended.

some ppl go into labor before then on their own too so it just depends but 40 weeks is the max you should be pregnant for it is just a standard way for measuring how many weeks pregnant a lot of people are pregnant for...but babies are perfectly healthy at 37 weeks so who cares, not like she is trying to have her baby before it is term

GOod lord..youre just not getting it. 40 weeks is the average..its what nature intended. The vast majority of women go to 40 weeks .so therefore THAT is FULL term.

Only a completely selfish prick would try to induce early labour or no reason. It's irresponsible and lazy of her doctor to even try! Doctors used to hate inducing even over due people..now doctors are willing to risk complications and "induce" bat 36 weeks. Whats next? In 10 years kids get c section at 36 weeks so moms don have to "suffer" through more "useless" pregnancy?!

Thats where its headed..

Well most doctors won't induce until they baby's lungs are ready, thats what my OB told me...he wants to induce me early as 37 weeks but if the baby's lungs aren't ready then he will wait...doctors also have to take the baby's health into thought if the baby is healthy and they want to induce so what it isn't your body so if a girl wants to induce for no reason so what, as long as her baby is healthy there isn't any danger...not like you are doing it...it is her body and she will choose to do what she wants with it

Well my doc is stripping my membranes at 36 wks I'm not allowed to go past my nov 4 th due date because I will have a repeat csection and this came from the maternal fetal med doc first then my own, and my doc said it may have to be done every week but she would like to start the process so I can have a vaginal birth which is my goal but I feel some people Are being a harsh if she wants to have her baby a little early so what it's her choice every BODY. Is not built for childbirth, and you say that the body is meant to hold the baby until week 40 not absolutely true every woman is different you may can natural hold a baby that long but some women can't.

Seriously full term is considered frm 37 weeks!!!! there can be many reasons on why they induce u...i was induced at 36 weeks due to my doctor thinking i had a small baby as a scan showed she had a small stomach they gave ma a sweep tht didnt work so had to go bk for thm to break my waters! so to say onli b induced for certain things just cos they more known there is LOTS of reasons y they do it isnt as black and white as you are making it out to be, so no full term isnt 40 its 37-40 weeks!! if she is to be induced at 36 then there would b a medical reason and she is prob worried so u carrying on about 40 weeks and blaa blaa tht isnt helping her or any1 else who has had to have there baby early
