baby name issue

ok so,

for some reason i am stuck on the name Ria for my daughter (ree-yah). i mean i dream about it, i love it i just can't get it out of my head i really want to name her Ria. But lately my mom is just relentless with insisting on me not naming her that. she's like 'oh kids are mean they're gonna call her diarrhea or gonorrhea or any kind of ailment that ends with rhea and she just makes it like my daughter is gonna be miserable for the rest of her life but i love the name soooo much. what do u all think? i've tried looking at other names but nothing strikes me like Ria

That's one of the main names my bf & I looked at. We're having a boy though thankfully (we couldn't decide on a girl name).

What middle name are you wanting to go with it?

wow what a dillemma! i like the name ria also, but mom does have a point... being teased about your name sucks! my last name is tarte, and i have been teased about it my whole life! i STILL get teased, and it still hurts my feelings.

all in all, she is YOUR baby, and you name her whatever feels right to you!

It's your daughter. It's YOUR choice. If you love the name, give it to her. It doesn't matter what your mom likes. If my mom didn't like the name i picked out, i really wouldn't care. for example i am naming my daughter ryleigh, and my mom doesn't like "boy" names for girls. but i could care less!!! i like the name you have chosen. stick with it!!

my mom acts like she will be devastated if i dont at least put Alyssa in there somewhere although i think a first and middle name ending with an A is kinda redundant i agreed to name her Ria Alyssa

I wouldnt worry about her getting made fun of. In all honesty you can find a way to make fun of ANY name!!! If you feel like she is a Ria then she is a Ria!! Congrats!!

I think it's a beautiful name. ?I wouldn't change it at all. My sister and mother don't like Kendra because they say that every girl they have knownwhose name is Kendra is a bitch....guess what I'm still naming my daughter? Don't worry!

I think it's a really nice name but unfortunately, your mother is right. Kids, unfortinately, can be very cruel. What about:

Andria.
Soria.
Maria.
Laria. (pronounced "law-ria."

go ahead and name what you want to name her. people with so called normal names get teased by kids as well.
i grew up with Felicia, and kids thought it was funny to call me Fellatio all the time, but my brothers name is Matthew and even he got teased a little bit, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Ria is a beautiful name, I wouldn't worry so much as long as you LOVE it.

just about any name you come up with, kids will find a way to distort it..if not the name- they will find something.

I don't think most kids are clever enough to come up with STI nicknames, heh.

If you love the name, go with it. Kids will always find things to tease kids about, trying to avoid teasing is impossible.

Yeah, my name is Natalie and everyone called me "Fatalie" because I had a weight problem and "Nat-brat" for whatever reasons. They also called me "Nat", as in "Gnat," like the bug. So yeah, kids can be very cruel but I honestly think kids will tease her for being called "Ria" for the reasons her mother suggested, unfortunately.

lol, its alright. honestly it never bothered me. if the worst thing thats going to happen to me in life is being called a stupid nickname by some bratty little kid , I'm thankful.
Kids are kids. They are going to find anything they can to tease someone with, you can't avoid it, and letting what could happen effect what you name your child is just letting them win anyways.
