My FIL was the cook and he did some of the training exercises the US army gave him two big pots and a little baking pan to cook for 50 people, wtf are you supposed to do with that? lol. So he had to order his own pots and pans and pay for them himself to cook

Quoting LIL MISSI♥ 7.4.08:“ so i know this might cause problems with a lot of people buti think our troops should stay in iraq...based ... [snip!] ... basically be signing a death warrant from them...my father in law has been to iraq several times he is in the Special Forces”

Surely if the troops came home that would open up the battleground for the CIA or Navy seals or whoever takes care of these things, to get in there and get the POW's out? There'd be less collateral that way too.

And yeah, 15 months sucks for the morale! My husbands doing his 15 mos as we speak (he'll be home for R&R this week  ) and not only will he have missed our first pregnancy, but our first child will be 8 months old when he gets back. He should be here to meet the lil fella when he pops out though  . It doesn't change the fact that his 8 month old will probably not even recognize his voice, and that's really hard for hubby I think.

I am not a military wife and didn't stop jumping in as well on the first thread LOL My dad served in the military when I was younger.

Thats about the same for me-my husbnd will be here in May to see him born, but he won't be back until he is 7/8 months old and he'll be home for a month. Then he has school for four months.

Send tape players back and forth with him talking to the baby, that way his voice is at least recognized when he finally does come home

I agree with #2. I believe the solution is gonig to be a political one, not a military one. Our men and women have done what we asked them to, they deserve to come home now. We cannot keep up the level of troops we have their for 100 more years, and even Iraqis and the Iraq government wants us out. Since they ARE their own democracy, why are we refusing to listen to them?

i am not an army wife but i am an active duty securtiy forces memberin the military. I've come to terms with the fact that we are never leaving. Iraq will one day be like korea, a one or two year long remote tour....history shows us that every time America has entered a country due to conflicts wemake it our job to protect the few that want us there. No everyone is right there are MANY that don't want us there. There are also those few that do want us there. Its not about what a solider wants in the end this is what every military member enlisted for (even if it was unknowingly). Our job is to protect and serve and thats what is suppose to come first. That never bothered me until now......now that I am amother.
The reality is thatall military affiliated people will know heart ache. Wehave all sent and been sent over seas forlong periods.
America is what is and has alwaysbeenknown as the "BIG BROTHER"look around there have been only a couple of times when we didn't get involved. We seem to be the protectors of those who don't always want it.

I do not have all the answers, that's why I pay taxes to have the professionals to deal with these answers. LOL

Don't blame the politicians for those 18+ months of deployment. That's the Army. Marines deploy on average for 6 months at a time. Usually it goes 6 months on, six months off. I'd rather have it this way than to be without my best friend for a year and a half! The Army can easily change their deployment rotations. However, rest a little easier knowing that the Army has Taco Bell and Pizza Hut over there.
