Mirena problems! *TMI warning*

posted 20th Oct '11
I had Mirena put in back in April, I had intercourse beginning of August, no complaints there. Well my new "friend" told me other night that I should go to the doctor to get checked out because he thinks there is a cyst or something that he can feel. So I did some self exploration, and I completely know what he is talking about the opening of my cervix feels like a ball and the strings can be felt, but its rather low. I had been informed that partners shouldnt feel a difference during intercourse, and this is deffinitly felt. There is no pain, I do feel pressure through out the day occasionaly. I do have a ton of lower back pain, and my face has broke out dramatically, I have never had acne in my life up until couple of months ago. Has anyone else experienced therse problems? Should I contact a doctor, in your opinion? My partner is rather large and I dont know if because of that reason he can feel it so well, I am looking for some answers. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated.

I tryed the Mirena twice and hated it ! the first time they placed it in wrong and it felt like someone was stabbing my uterus!! and the second time it didn't hurt as much but my partner complaned about feeling the strings during sex, the dr said the only thing they should feel would probably be the strings, which is still akward to feel the strings for him, after awhile I would get the worst craps ever, i would rather go into labor than feel those cramps again, so i decided to take it out. It wasn't worth the pain. Hope everything works out for you , maybe you can decide on a different BC

Anything that is foreign to the body, like an IUD, the body will create cells around it. So, since the string is hanging out of the cervix, cells and tissue grow around it, which could be that hard spot in which you are feeling. My husband also felt the string. When did you get it put in? They usually soften up after a couple mo.

I too got mine removed. It didn't work for me.

Ugh, no wonder my t-zone is all clogged up. I never had skin issues until I put this thing in. Can't wait to get it out.

I would take a pregnancy test just to be sure also! I had to have my Mirena put in twice because one was defective & then after an hour with my legs spread eagle & them jamming smurf into my uterus they finally got it in, & lo & behold I ended up getting pregnant anyway!

I have never had Mirena b/c I can't stand the thought of something permanently inserted into my body.....but I have to say - I feel like I have never heard of anyone happy with it. Everyone is either complaining about bad periods/no periods/getting pregnant anyway/feeling the strings or not feeling the strings. Has anyone been happy with this form of BC?

Need some more HELP!!! I contacted my DR today and she wanted me to come in today! I live out of state and do not have health insurance, so I am kind of at a loss as to what to do! Any advice, a big concern also is I go back to the military in the next couple of weeks, and the do a gyno check as part of the physical and I DO NOT want to be disqualified for this! I just dont know what to do, and the DR said I need to be checked out immediatly

You need to go to the doctor and just work out a payment plan.

Creating cells around the strings... Did this occur for you? I had so many issues with Mirena, that my husband and I agreed enough was enough. After playing phone tag with ins and the doctor's office for two months, I realized I couldn't get it removed in the time that I wanted. I wouldn't advise this, but I did it myself. No pain or anything. I am curious that you mention cells forming on the strings though. Which is what occurred with me. Once I am able to get my hands on a GYN, I'm going to inform them of the small tissue at the strings/post attachment. It didn't feel as though it was attached to anything inside of me, just chilling on the Mirena. I decided not to be worried, my body will advise me if something is not right, just like it did when it began rejecting Mirena after 3 years of use.

I have had the Mirena for the last five years. I just recently got that one removed and a new one put in. I never have fatigue. I do have minor cramps but that is because it aggravated the uterine wall removing the old one and placing the new one. I never have a period hardly and is another thing I love about it!
Every woman's body is different though. If you think you are having ANY issues whatsoever, go to your GYN. This product is fairly new as products go, and we are the tests. If anything happens only we can make them aware.
Do not wait and guess go at once. Waiting is never a good thing and some women do have issues (knock on wood).

Good luck, and please keep us posted. ♥
