circumcision

When did you get your baby circumsized? We weren't able to get Josh done because they said he was too small when he came home from the NICU. So when we went to his pediatrician, she gave us a number to call to set up appt. She told to me that he should be able to have it done when he's about 8lbs or so. Well, we called them and they told us we have to wait until he's 1 year because of the anesthesia. We called 2 other places and one of them said the same, but the other said they don't have an age limit.My friend's baby got circumsized at 5 weeks and her dr. told her that she had to get him done by the time he's 6 months. Now I don't know what's right and when I need to. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

You can get it done at any age, there's no cut off, pardon the pun.

I'm not too sure, but I do know that my nephew had to wait until he was a year old. So if you do have to wait that long, I'm sure everything will be ok.

Hmmm.... I would think they could just do a local anesthetic and take care of it that way. Seeing as most docs dont use anesthetic at all when they are newborn!   I think that is a little barbaric, personally myself. They just strap their little arms and legs down and cut off their foreskin!!  But I would think they could do local anesthetic like they would for a filling in your tooth??? I dont know. I think it would be way more traumatic to wait until he's a year and then have to deal with all the healing and stuff while he's crawling or walking around. Besides the general anesthetic.   Hopefully you can find someone to do it soon if you're gonna do it, the earlier the better I would think. JMO though.

My twins were born at 28 weeks and so we waited till they were considered term and then we got it done by out pediatritian. He had no problems with doing it and there was no anethesia involved accept maybe something local but that is all we had to wait for.

That's what I thought. I'd rather get it done sooner. I feel like he's more likely to be really affected by it if he's crawling and walking around. And I'd just feel better getting it over with sooner. The drs office said they to wait until he's one b/c they put him to sleep and want to make sure he'll wake up.

General anesthesia for a circumsision? That is crazy. Going under general is far more dangerous than the actual procedure. Alexander was circumsized at 1 day old by my OB. Get your son done as soon as possible. The older he is the more traumatic it will be.

My son was a 31 weeker, we waited til he was about 2-2.5 months old, they gave him a local, and I am glad we got it done then rather then when he was older and would be wanting to touch it and such

I just had my son last week and he was circumsized at 2 days old. It's a lttle rough at first, but he's haling so great now! His little pee-pees so pretty now lol. I told him he better be in Playgirl one day after having to go thru all that! Waiting is just cruel in my opinion, the sooner the better. I'd keep calling til someon can get you in asap! Good luck!

I got Liam circumsized at one week old. It was terrible. He screamed so loudly he made ME cry.

dawson was also circumsized at 2 days old.

i got my baby circumsized at 2 days old by the Dr in the hospital. He was only 6lbs 14 oz when he was born and they used local ana. The Dr said he did great and slept through most of it and he hasnt had any problems with it since then.My dr uses the little ring thing that goes on the penis until it is healed and then it falls off by itself.

Hmm...I'll be 34w to the day on my induction (this monday!) and my doc said a circ can be done as long as there's enough weiner to work with. If not come back in 2 weeks.
