My doc told me the same thing because my son is too small that we would need to wait. He is also on oxygen and because he is now 2 months old that they would have to put him under to do it and since he is on oxygen no one will do it. He also told me that we would need to wait till he is about a year to two years old by then because by then he will be healthy enough to handle it but then he might hate us for making him go through such pain and we should wait till he is old enough to make the desission himself.

That is strange. My son was born at 31 weeks. He was in theNICU for 6 weeks. He came home at 4 lbs. and he had his circumcision the day before he came home. Maybe they just do things differently in different areas. I am glad he had it done then instead of later. Good luck to you!

Ryan got his done when he was 6 weeks old, the day before he left the NICU.. I dont see why they didn't do your sons? That's weird..

I know, it really bothers me he didn't get it done before he left. Now, I'm scared insurance won't cover it because they say its cosmetic. We can't really afford it out of pocket right now. But, I'm sure it'll work out so I'm going to try not to worry.

I've been keeping up with your baby boy on here. He's so adorable. How's he doing now?? Is he feeling any better?

He's doing well.. getting chubby, quick! He was 5lb3oz when he came home on March 2nd, and on Friday he weighed 6lb10oz!   He's still got thrush though   He's gotta go back to the doc this week since the antibiotics arent doing too much..

WOw ok I am confussed my son was a 32 weeker and he was sniped a week before coming home from the hospital. He was only 4 pounds 12 ounces when he was born and whent hey sniped him he was 5 pounds. The NICU here said they snip them before they go home so they can watch for any type of problem and the parents don't have to deal with giving a baby that young pain meds (its hard to dose for preemies) So unless our NICU was REALLY weird or my son was just special enough to not have to wait I don't know but I thought they did it before they left. Shows how different doctors and hospitals can be! Good luck and I hope all goes well for your little guy.

Hi Everyone, I am new to the Boards here but I was reading and I just wanted to tell you guys that you are not alone! My son was a 24 weeker, and he spent 151 days in the NICU. We wanted him Circt and the NICU thought it would "set him back" we had him on the schedual and every thing!! It was really frusterating and upsetting to me and my husband. He was also on O2 and he came home on it. We were told that we have to wait until he is 1 yr old too, because of general. So in may we have an appt. with a dr. to do it. I know how you guys feel because I just wanted my son to have his done and over with. I never even thought about insurance not covering it! I hope ours does! Well Good luck, and I hope you get some answers soon!

I had my son at 36 weeks and went through major surgery to put his intestines back into his abdomen as soon as he was born. He was in the hospital for a month and a couple of days before he left they did the circumcision. He was at 5 lbs 14oz when they did the circumcision and it was only a local anesthetic  was given. If they want to put him under I strongly suggest you look into that, it doesn't sound very safe, not to mention that it isn't necessary.

Our insurance say they won't cover it if we do it any earlier than one year. So has anyone had it done without using insurance..if so, about how much does it cost??
