Child Support! Anybody [recieving it] I got ?s

Ok well basically im 19 im 8mths pregnant and i've about had it with how the father is going about the whole thing. My situation is im under my mothers insurance because i cant work right now an afford it, but the thing is m moms insurance will only cover me if i amattending school. Ive graduated high school and am enrolled into my college bt do not begin until May. So every other doctors appointment is a big wonder on what kind of bill im getting. I live with my Mother Granfather an little Sister. My mom is trying her best to keep it together an my grandfather is really old an is ready to retire asap. If and when he does retire we will have to move back to NC [where living is way cheaper than FL]. As of now we already cutt of the long distance on the fone and the cable because its ust too high, by next month there will be no house fone, which cud be kind of dangerous with me an my baby here with no way to contact anyone. I tell hin this all the time and he does nothing at all to help, yes im already on wick but lets face it wick isnt as big of a help as you think it wud be. When i 1st got pregnant he was so happy [i was jus scared] all he tlked about was the baby, about 3 to 4mnths later his ex comes the picture an now he doesnt even want to believe its his. I never said he couldnt take a dna test, its fine with me though we both kno its his. Ive put up with his girlfreinds threats an his threats for mnths now an am so tired of it, im conviced there will be no other way to handle this to but him on child support.

What im asking is for help from anyone expeirencing [sp] child support:
what do i need to get it?
how does it work?
how do you handle it?
do i need full custody b4 i can get child support?

Ive tried doing some research on it but i keep getting all this stuff i cant really understand.

I'd love to hear your story's
I kno im young but i cant deal with him on top of all of my other issues

I have no experience with getting child support but I say go for it. He should have to contribute towards the cost of raising his child. Go to the local DHS (Department of Human Services) office and they can get you started on how to collect child support as well as see if you qualify for otherassistance. As for not having a phone, try and get one of those prepaid phones so you at least have one for when the baby comes and emergencies. Walmart has a deal right now where if you buy the $15 Tracfone, you get $15 in free airtime. Good luck with your situation!

Just go into your local social services office and apply for cash aide... they will get the paperwork going for the child support for you and they will give you a set amount each month. You can collect till 6 months after the baby is born, then you have to go back to work. But when you do you will start getting the child support checks in place of the cash aid...
Also you would most likely qualify for medi-cal as well, which by the way, pays for everything.

Oh and for a phone check to see if you have Metro PCS in your area. They are an unlimited minutes provider with the cheapest plan being 30 and the most 50 every month. no other fees!

I don't really know much about it either. My sister is trying to get it but she's having problems because her ex is on disability (or SSI check, not sure if that's the same thing). He gets another kind of check than she can draw off of but the people here are slooowwww. So if you do come to NC, especially the area I'm in, be prepare to go through hell. But once you get it I think you get back pay from when your case was first put in the system. One think I do know is that I believe if he's not on the birth certificate they'll have to do a DNA test so that may make the process a little bit longer.

Social services will also take care of getting the dna test done.

Thnx your info helped, i was worried for some reason that i had to qualify for it an wouldnt get it or somthing because though he doesnt want to help wiy thing he claims if he finds out its his he's going to take her from me and i jus cant let that happen he put me through to much to end up taking my baby from me. Thnx i didnt know about the birth certificate thing but i doubt he will be there to sign it but ill do whatever it takes b/ i need some kind of help jus a few mins ago my mom told me she only has $7 in her checking account after paying all the bills until her nxt check, that really bothers me. I thot going back to NC would be alot easier b/c owning aome in south FL is way to much an i know its alot better there but i may have not have much of a choice, i jus want to help my mom as much as possible an not add to her expenses an b/c i cant work right now it can be so stressing.

My sister had a similar problem... it was a control issue, he never wanted the baby (who is my handsome nephew that is now 4 and a half)
During the first couple years the guy will only get a couple hours visitation per day and usually only two days a week. Keep a log and make him sign in each time , if he doesnt show up write down his reason and have him sign it when he shows up the next time...
If you breastfeed they will definately wont do any overnights for a while.

They never did end up giving him overnights because luckily his drug test results finally came through proving my sister was telling the truth about him using. He lost his rights and we havent seen or heard from him in 3 years. But we still get child support,once that is set up by a court it is mandatory and any legal job he has they will automatically deduct it from his check and send it to you... if he doesnt pay for a while they will suspend his license, or not allow him to file taxes, among other things until he pays again... I LOVE THAT!

So dont stress too much about it and also if you are that worried about him go to the courthouse and get a restraining order against him and keep it with you everywhere, make sure you have a phone so that you can call when you need help. You dont need any police report or anything to get a restraining order, you will have to explain what circumstances led you to wanting one but thats it... and it protects the baby until you go to court for the custody.

Omg thnx so much Nichole i will definitley do that u helped me alot im not so clue less anymore lol. I dnt know all i shud probly but if i have anymore questions i will deffinitley ask. Im pretty sure you will hear from me again, lol.

I filed for child support. Yet I recieved payments for a month and that was 2 years ago. Keep filling after that.

Have you moved since then? If you move they wont have your new address unless you give it to them. You can call up the child support services department and find out whats going on... then you can find out what your state does to help get them working again, like suspending license and stuff.

I also didnt see any money for a couple years and I called up to double check and they had 3 checks waiting for me and sent them right out. Previously they didnt have any consequences for not paying but they have some new law about it or something... I love it!

You need to get a statement after the child is born to say you have custody meaning you are the primary parent/residence for the child which you should be able to get at the court house.

The amount will be based on his income and you can usually get atleast 30% of his income but it all depends on if he is actually working cause if he isnt you wont get anything. You might be able to get a child support guidlines booklet from the courthouse to find out exactly how much you qualify for.

You must get it offical through the judge in order for it to be legally binding. that way if he doesnt pay he can be arrested and charged with failing to comply with a court order. He would then have all of his wages garnished until the back child support was paid off.

DCF can usually help you get started and they will help you more with other things if you need it. Remember the health department is free if you dont have insurance so thats always a option.

i have a court order against my sons father for child support. you dont need full custody you just have to prove paternity. at first we had chosen to do support paid directly to me from him because i was giving him the benefit of the doubt and figured he would be an adult about the whole situation. he was supposed to pay every friday and fora while he did well.. then he just started paying when he felt like it.. so i re-filed the paperwork to get the support switched from direct pay to through the system so now the money gets taken straight from his pay checks everytime he gets paid... that way theres no waiting and wondering as to whether or not im gonna get child support... my advice is get it paid through the system don't believe him when he tells you that he's gonna pay you directly.. 99% of the time he's lying

but let me add this.. if you get him locked up for not paying child support YOU STILL WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY! he CAN NOT pay you from jail.. plus he isn't really making any money in there anyways. they made that clear to me in court.
