re: Calling all November Mamas!

posted 19th Apr
Hormones and stress, yeah. We're moving in 3 days and I currently live with 5 people - myself and my husband and three roommates. We're all moving to a new house for a bit, then one room mate is going to Whitehorse for the summer, and the other is getting kicked out for being a useless ass who doesn't pay rent. I work weekends and I've been so tired that packing has been almost impossible for me to do. So far, I have packed the whole living room myself (we have a lot of books and dvds and stuff), my hubby has packed half of one closet, and no one else has done a thing. So I'm freaking out a bit!

I told my in-laws and my husbands grandma about the baby, and they were thrilled! Way more excited than I thought they would be. They keep saying "oh, this is great, you'll be such a fabulous mom!" which is comforting. I was expecting them to be like "But you just got married! This is terrible!"

We're also getting a puppy next week. We paid for him before we found out I was pregnant, and bought all kinds of stuff for the dog and everything. I'm a bit worried because everyone I know is like "oh, that's terrible. You should definitely not get a dog. Dogs and kids are terrible together." I think they're wrong, but I'm still worrying about. There are just so many things to think about now! I'm almost surprised I sleep at all!

We had JUST moved when I got pregnant so I kindof understand where you're coming from. we're military and we found out in mid/late december that we were moving cross country 2.5 weeks later. So that was fun! Sorry about your roommate situation, though. Thats always hard.

As for the puppy, what kind are you getting? The puppy will be 6 months old at least before the baby is born, so you have plenty of time to train it not to jump on people/furniture/housebreaking/etc before the baby arrives. I have a puppy that we got in December at 8 weeks and he's 6 months now, so he'll be a year when the baby is born. He's a tiny dog so we let him on the furniture and he sleeps in our bed (I know, we shouldnt, but he's so good!). But he's very gentle and such a good dog (yay early training) that I'm not too concerned about mixing him and baby! Just remember, its all about training!

Great pyrenees/ lab retreiver cross. He's going to be a BIG dog! Definitely not sleeping on the bed, that's for sure. My husband and I grew up with dogs so it's weird not to have a dog. Thankfully, we knew we wanted kids eventually and looked into breeds that are good with kids.

My mother-in-law teaches piano to kids, and she knows 3 families with a great pyrenees and small children, and they are apparently fabulous together. Definitely spending a lot of time on training now, and getting the dog used to kids (my neices and nephews) and walking beside a stroller, not pulling on the leash, etc.

Moving definitely sucks! I can't imagine being military and moving so often. Doing it at all is a huge hassle.

Yeah, we just moved at the end of Jan and we get to do it again in November (September if my docs approve my moving so late in the game). So, its going to be a really special time to say the least! Grr! Hope things go really well for you, though.

Hopefully, yeah. Hopefully they go well for you too! Definitely not going to be any fun.

My SIL moved 8 months into her 3rd pregnancy. They weren't planning on doing it that late, but their house didn't sell when they hoped it would. And it was the end of July and disgustingly hot. Hopefully if you move in sept. it'll be not too hot!

My husband and I got a dog in November knowing we would be trying to get pregnant in Feb. The dog is now 8 mo old. He is fully trained and great with kids. I would recomend training class' just to make it an easier transition for you. But at this point we don't have to pick up any mess' from him. He is a black lab and I was a little worried at first but now I can confidently say as long as the dog respects you and listens to you having them with children is no problem at all.

I've already got a list of dog training classes in our area that look really good. As soon as his shots are up to date, he's definitely going in one! The last thing I want is a giant untrained dog and a baby. Big untrained dogs are bad enough on their own.

So far our puppy seems like a big mush. Loves to cuddle, lol. Of course, he's only 8 weeks old now so we'll see how he turns out in the future and how he is when seperated from his brothers and sisters and his mom. We get him Wedneday- so exciting!

It's weird how I used to always feel like EVERYONE was doing things faster and better than me, and I spent all my time waiting for the stuff in my life to get started. Now I've graduated school, got a job (that I hate, but oh well), got married, got a dog, and got pregnant all within a couple of years! Now I think it's moving too fast, I think I need some time to breathe.

Sorry, I'm totally monopolizing this board, but I thought of something else-

It does sort of feel like everything is moving so fast- but I keep looking at all the belly pics for June, July, August moms and getting jealous. I keep running to the bathroom at work here to look at my belly - I want to feel pregnant, not just sick!

I also have to pee every 20 min. so at least I'm multi-tasking! Sort of.

Okay...I officially hate the hospital at MCAGCC 29 Palms...I started spotting very lightly last night. It went away before I went to bed so I figured I'd check it again in the morning and go from there. When I woke up, it was back and it had gotten significantly worse. It still was just pink, not red, but it was definitely fresh blood and increasing in volume as the hours passed. So, I got my hubby out of bed and we made a trip to the ER on base. My OB is at the base hospital, so there are no after-hours numbers to call. My only option is the ER.

Basically...they did NO exam, NO blood tests, NO ultrasound, NO taking a look at anything at all. NOTHING. They just came in and said "since you're not having severe cramping (I told them I'd had a few minor cramps, but nothing really painful) that it was probably nothing" and that I should just go on home. They told me to tell my doc at the appointment on Thursday and have them do an HCG quant. (apparently the OBGYN office didnt think it was important to do one for me before). They literally told me "theres nothing we can do" and that "if something happens, it would just be nature taking its course"... they also informed me that I "shouldnt get my hopes up for an ultrasound because the machine in the ER isnt sensitive enough to see anything until 15 weeks"...who the hell is ordering the equipment for this hospital, anyway?

yes, i realize that if something was wrong there'd be nothing they could do, but I'd like to at least KNOW if something IS wrong...or be reassured that NOTHING is wrong rather than being told simply that "theres nothing we can do"....all without examining me or anything. They did have me pee in a cup, but only after I asked them if they were really going to send me home without any testing or exams whatsoever. I waited 15 mins for the test results (funny, it takes the hospital 2 weeks to call me back when I go in for a regular appointment and scheduled tests, but I get results from the ER in 15 minutes?)
My urine came back normal...im not sure what tests they ordered on my pee, but at least that IS normal.

Now, I'm still spotting (not enough to fill a pad, but enough to worry me...and its PINK/red not brown). They literally didnt tell me to go home and relax or drink more fluids or stay off my feet or ANYTHING. They just told me to go home and go to my appointment on Thurs and make sure they do an HCG quant (why didnt THEY do one, you ask? Not a %*&$^ clue!!! You'd think if they were concerned they'd do one even if there were nothing to compare it to except the "averages"....)

Sorry...had to rant a little...I hate this %&(*$^ing hospital and I just want to move back to NC so I can go to my old hospital and have my old doc and not have a crappy experience every time I walk through the door! This is ridiculous!

Well, not being the kind to take no answer for an answer, so...being the smart individual I am...I love having military insurance, by the way. Because I was completely unsatisfied with my treatment at the base hospital, I went to the hospital out in town and they treated me MUCH better!

Indeed, they took blood tests (and checked my HCG levels) and did an ultrasound and a pelvic exam to check and see how much blood I was losing and from where. My HCG levels were low for how far along I am, so that was concerning to me. They were about where they should be if I were 4-6 weeks along, not 11.

Their diagnosis is that I am "threatening miscarriae" 6 weeks pregnant (not 11) because the baby is only at the development point of being 6 weeks. I tested positive at home (and at the hospital) 7 weeks ago, so that seems WAY off. It COULD mean that the baby has stopped developing, but I dont want to speculate too much at this point. Or it could mean that I am, in fact, 6 weeks along.

I'm now cramping (getting progressively worse, as is the spotting) and I'm on complete bed-rest until further notice. I have my first OB appointment on Thursday, so I'm going to go to that as scheduled and see what they say and compare my HCG levels and ultrasound results from Thursday with those from Today and figure out where I stand then.

Keep praying for me, ladies. And my little tiny bean (only 4 mm, apparently)!!! Pray that I'm really only 6 weeks (although it is disheartening to go back 5 weeks) and that the bean hasnt just stopped developing completely.

Thanks for all the prayers and well-wishes everyone.

Unfortunately, I wish I were half as lucky as you all are. I dont begrudge you at all and I hope you (and all the other ladies) have absolutely perfect pregnancies and babies.

I lost my little one at about three am today. So I guess I'll be in the sad mommies forum and in a few months in the TTC forum. I really do wish you all the best, and I hope none of you ever have to feel this. Those of you who have, I am so sorry. 48 hours ago I would hve imagined this kind of pain.

Much love to all of you. I'm keeping my profile and my screen name, so if you want to message me I'll continue checking this forum for a few days because it seems strange to me to no longer be a part of it. I really will miss you ladies. You've been great support and a great sounding board these last few weeks. My thoughts and prayers are that you all have wonderful experiences.

Love,
P
