okay i had been exclusively breastfeeding up untilyesterday (my baby is 2 1/2 weeks old) I had been pumping before i had to go somewhere or if she was going to grandma's and she seems to prefer to get the milk from the bottle instead of the breast now. it's really frustrating for us both for her to try to nurse at the breast so after trying to feed her for almost an hour an a half, i just ended up making her a bottle of formula and she was happy and went to sleep. so now i want to do both (formula and breast milk) because it seems easier for her and i know it's easier on me.

i guess what i'm trying to say is that i feel kinda like a failure and a bad mom and all that guilt for not breastfeeding exclusively. i just want some support and someone to tell me it's okay... i know i probably sound crazy... i just need a little support

I know EXACTLY how you feel! I just can't exclusively BF. I am finishing my degree and have to leave her sometimes with my mom. I was the same as you. I BF and pumped and my supply went way down and I've been trying everything to get it back up but it's not working. I give her formula too. Your not a bad mom! If you take care of her and love her you are doing everything you are supposed to

The first formula Igave Alliewas mixed in with cereal a little over 4 months old. It was such a struggle! I kept trying to "sell the idea" to my husband with all of these points when he kept telling me it was fine. I know it was more for myself to help me be ok with it. It's crazy how much of a mental struggle it is for us to get over that barrier.

It helped me to remind myself that people feed their babies formula everyday! It's not a bad thing by any means, you are still providing for your child, and it does not make you less of a person if you use formula part of the time/all of the time.

Thank you! I keep telling myself, "if she's happy, then i'm doing a good job" but i feel bad about it sometimes... blame it on hormones i guess lol
It would be easier to EBF if I didn't work or ever have to leave the house, but that's just not possible.

You made me feel better tho!

I've been doing the same thing with my SO lol i've been trying to sell the idea to him and he keeps telling me it's OK and i'm doing good but i keep tell him more reasons why it's OK and why i'm not being a bad mom lol

Good! I know I have cried it about it many times but had to accept the same thing. And yes some of us (including myself) have to leave our babies sometimes for work, school ect. It doesn't make us less of mommies.

please help   i havent gotten a response from anyone..

i dont have time to put the whole story of why im having to switching from breastmilk to formula but for 5 weeks all my son has had is breast milk, i was wanting to give him a bottle of soy formula tonight to see how he takes it, but i dont know if its okay to start out with a full feeding of formula when hes never had it, and mixing it with breast milk defeats the purpose of soy...

any input from moms who have gone through this would be great

You can start out a full feeding with formula the mixing with BM is just so they have a familiar taste or if you are supplementing.

If you don't mind me asking why are you going straight to soy?

you can cut out dairy in your diet to see if that helps him if you want to continue to BF.

Id talk to a pedi about the formula. What I've heard thats the last resort. Maybe try a sensitive formula first.

im having the same problem,
my son is now 2 weeks old.
he would never latch on right, till now.
but when he eats, he will breastfeed for 20 min.
and still be hungry, and my boobs would be
to sore to continue to breastfeed so i would
have to give him a bottle.
then my boobs would be to engorged to breastfeed
sometimesand now i havnt breastfeed for a few days.
i really want to continue tho, any ideas on how
to produce more milk? im afraid its drying up now.
im going to see a lactation specialist but not for
a few more days..
