Week 6 smile?

posted 10th Mar '08
I know that every baby is different and they all develope at their own pace, but from everyone of my friends who've had babies that I talk to, they all say their child was smiling by 6 weeks. Olivir hasn't smiled yet, and I know part of it is my impatience...I really want to see a real smile...but I'm also worried. I give him lots of love and cuddle him tons and try and give him as much stimulation as possible, but I dunno. When did your son or daughter start social smiling?

Oh goodness, don 't worry yourself!
First they will do the sleep smiles, then anywhere around 6 to 10 weeks, you will see their first social smiles (ie. when they are awake). I'd say the usual time marker is around 2 months. So give it some time.
ENJOY!

My little girl smiled when she was one day old.
and by about three weeks, she smiled everytime she saw me or her daddy.

Well my little girl will be 7 weeks Wednesday and just within the last 2 weeks or so we have been getting social smiles. She really loves her big sisters. In fact my profile picture is the first real smile I have been able to capture. She was laughing at her biggest big sister Alexis who is 6. She was standing here calling her honey and she just started smiling at her. It was too cute

My babygirl started to smile between 5-6weeks. But like you said every baby is different , i am sure it is nothing to worry about. He will smile at you soon! Sometimes i tickle her cheeks and it will get her to smile.

oh and if you talk in a really high pitch annoying voice. That will usually get them smiling, i will repeat her name or say baby..it works!

hehe...when he wakes up, I'm soooo gonna try and get him to smile. It's weird. I talk to him all the time, but only in a little higher pitched voice than normal, and he stares SO intently, but just watches. No smile.... I'm getting one soon though lol
