re: Classic Name Lovers - Take 2.

Totally not name related, BUT I've finally gotten something good happening to me. After months of getting the short end of the stick, I finally got a car! I had to give up mine to my husband when we married so he could work while I stayed home. It was hard going from completely independent to trapped   Now we paid off that car that I bought before we met, a year early, and got our first car together, and all on our own with no help from anyone! Granted I'm getting ass raped on interest, but I'm getting ass raped ON MY OWN! YAY! We needed something bigger because the car seat now hardly fits in our Neon and there's NO way a second would fit and then no room for the puppers. So I got a Jeep Patriot. 4x4 SUV and still gets 25-30 mpg!

I know of the show, but I've never seen it...one of my friends was talking about it as a possibility for the little guy they're having in March, and I was like, "Wait, you spell it how?"

Now I know where she got it from!

Congrats. Keep making your payments on time (and $50 more each month if you can) and then in a year or two you can refinance it and get your interest dropped.

I did that with my Scion xB. I actually inherited the car & the payment from my mom (when I was hit by a drunk driver, she let me have the car if I made the payment). The interest was like 10%. RIDICULOUS! My monthly payment was $285! So I finally refinanced it through Golden 1 (they're awesome, but they're only based in California), which dropped my interest rate to 3% and dropped my payment to $170 (I shortened the term & added gap insurance...or else it would've been even cheaper).

But then when DH crashed his truck, we used the settlement money from State Farm to pay off the xB and went through Golden 1 again to buy our Honda Pilot. This time we got a 4% interest rate and pay $275 (on a $16k loan).

Thanks!

We were thinking of refinancing in a few years. Our interest is 23% :-(

OH my god!!

My interest on my car was 6.75%, and then I refinanced through my credit union and my interest changed to like 3% and it also knocked my payments down like$50. I was pretty happy.

Ohmygosh!!! I know my friend's interest rate on her Odyssey is/was like 13%, and then they just got a Camry and that one is like 17%. They literally pay $500 in car payments each month. Granted...they needed the Odyssey for its room/seating (2 car seats + 2 adults + 1 teen live in that house) & they needed the Camry for its gas (her DH works 45 minutes away from their home). Her credit is decent, but her DH's credit is TRASH. Not because of him, though. His mom started using his social and stuff to apply for things back in the day. He didn't really understand credit or anything, so he just went along with it and she NEVER paid ANYTHING off.

Did you use Golden 1 or no? I think Credit Unions are pretty good to get low interest rates for cars...

Did I use Golden 1 for my loan? No, I've never heard of them before. This credit union is only in my area, there are only two of them all together.

I know! I about died! But we needed it and it's my first loan without a cosigner so I have to Suck it up. If I had the 9. 9 I had on my car I'd be paying like $198 :-(

Oh. I live in Sacramento & work for the State so almost EVERYONE uses Golden 1 here. They deposit your check into your account a day in advance and stuff, so State workers love them. Lol. Plus, they don't charge any fees and they're a credit union too. https://www.golden1.com/home/default

I just looked their locations up. Looks like they're mostly a NorCal thing. They only have a couple of branches in SoCal.

Oh... I don't live in Cali. I'm in the Midwest. I just wished I lived in Cali.

If there's one thing I'm grateful for, it's how my mom taught me (and controlled me) when I first started my credit. She would NOT let me overspend. I opened my first Capital One credit card at like 19 and she would only let me use it for gas in my car and made me pay it off every month. Like...she was on me about that. At the time, I was just like "whatever, mom", but now, I'm very, very grateful, knowing that it's helped DH and I a lot.

DH didn't have any credit when we got married, so I helped him along the way (I manage the finances, for the most part) and now our credit scores are about the same...mine is 714 & his is 711. We hardly ever make late payments, we pay off our credit cards each month (which is killing us, really because it totals to about $1300/month), & the only things we allow to accumulate interest is our car payment & our house mortgage.

I plan to do the same thing to Alba when she's old enough to apply for credit.
