Having surgery,really nervous!!

posted 5th Mar
Well yesterday I went to see a Neonatal MD,because my dr. thinks I am going to have a high risk pregnancy.
My previous preg. ended up in a 31 week delivery, the whole 31weeksI was put on bed rest but that didn't help. This was not the news I was wanting to hear.I am feeling fine with this one but my dr. just wants to prevent it from happening again. So I am going to see my dr. Thursday and get set up for surgery on Friday.:cry The good news is that my baby is growing fine and I finally heard the heartbeat for the first time,150beats!! Wow I was so excited!! I am still not able to tell the sex(bummer).Just wanted to know if one one is going threw any thing similar?

Sounds like she might be getting a cerclage--since she has her last baby early. Could be the result of an incompetent cervix. So they will put some suture in her cervix to prevent it from dialating. (I had it done at 15 weeks and was on bedrest till I went into labor at 37 weeks.)

thats what I thought to when I read the post but when they talked to me about getting one I was told it would be done in my OB's office and not really considered a surgery as much as a out patient proceder(sp?), thats why I was wondering

I am going through the same thing you are... I am 12 weeks and my ob referred me.
to a high risk doc! My first pregnancy I was hospitalized and finally had my son at 29 weeks! yeah he stayed in the nicu for 6weeks.. So now the docs want me to be careful with everything I do and I have a c-section once again. I feel you I know it sucks but its for the babe inside !!

In the doctors office? Never heard of that done (I work in the operating room)cause since it is a surgery they administer a spinal block (some give general anesthesia)....There are too many risks associated with it for it to be done in an office. That would scare me if my doc offered that. Crazy. Plus, they usually send you to L&D to be monitored afterward for contractions since it irritates the cervix.

It is an outpatient procedure which means that she will go home after the surgery and not stay over night. Unless they are worried about contractions afterwards. I went in at 730 and was home by 2pm. I didn't have any contractions after the surgery though.

Check out this site. It will help you out and answer a lot of questions that you have about Incompetent Cervix and cerclages. It is a Incompetent Cervix Support Group. The women are mainly on bedrest and have had or have acerclage! It helped me out tremendously when I was on bedrest and had questions.

It's hard but definately worth it!

Well the reason I had one put in the last preg. was that my cervix was dilating from the inside out.It was caught during an ultrasound. This time I have to have one put in because it's a high risk pregnancy.
