Aww :[ So it can't happen if the babies have their own placenta? My twins both have their own.

That's what I was thinking. I started to get concerned with my braxton hicks because I started having diarrhea along with them, I indeed was having contractions but that was when I was 32 weeks. They stopped, obviously. I'd call just to get their opinion on what to do!

No, it's only if they are sharing one. If they share the one, they share the nutrients and one baby could end up taking up most of them causing the other to not grow as well. If they have their own then they get all their nutrients from their own placenta. When I had my girls, a mama had her fraternal girls the next day and one girl weighed 9lbs. something while the other twin was only 5lbs something. It wasn't caused by tts since they had their own placenta's just one developed into a big baby. I bet that the other's size may have had some affect on the other twin but not by taking it's nutrients and food. I don't think you need to worry about TTTS!

Plus, with twins who share a placenta, there is also uneven placental sharing, where one twin gets more nutrients but there is no mixing of the blood supply, so one can be much bigger without TTTS. This occasionally, but very rarely happens with twins who have their own but fused placenta's. It's so rare thought that I wouldn't worry about it at all!

You're main concern with fraternal twins, or even identicals with seperate placentas is preterm labor. Eat as much protein as possible and drink a lot. That's your best insurance against preterm labor.

Hey mamas it has been a while since I have been in here- ive been sooooo busy with everything going on- ahhh!!! But good news- I had another ultrasound today- YAY!!! anddddddddd my doctor told me this: At this point in development both male and female babies have external genitalia. But, the genitalias point in different directions. A girl's genitalia will point horizontally and a noy''s genitalia point vertically.
So, today they did my genetic screening test. It was a really clear picture and the nurses were able to tell that BOTH of my baby's genitalia were pointing vertically. So, it looks like I am having twin boys. However, they warned me that this is only a prediction and I would have to wait for my 18 week ultrasound to be able to tell for certain.
But, I am soooo soooo soooo excited!!!   Finding this out made me SUPER happy! I know it is not for sure, but the doctor and a few nurses said that the genetic screening test was obviously not 100% accurate, but close to it. So, I hope mine is right!!!
Anyways, just wanted to share my EXCITING news!
ohhhh.. they are fraternal though.
