re: PREGNANT WITH TWINS? (or more)

posted 3rd Jul
The book I have been reading is --Twins! Pregnancy, Birth and the First Year of Life, and it is a very good book.

The doc. told me to take over the counter Slow FE for my iron, it's a small tablet. It's so hard for me to take a chewable, they may taste good at first, but after chewing them everyday they begin to taste nasty. My prenatal vitamins has iron in them, but I guess it wasn't enough for carrying twins.

I notice it if I stand up really fast

I take the Slow FE pills too - I dont eat meat - so thats why he wants me to take them - only one more hour left at the office and then I can go to my doctors office :0)

I was anemic during pregnancy and my Dr told me to take Slow Fe. I'm horrible at swallowing pills so my iron got really low before and after delivery. After I delivered I had to get a series of 4 shots over two weeks because my level was at 5 (8 prior to c-section). I have yet to find out what my level is right now since I had my shots.

Drumroll please....I just found out that baby A is a GIRL with a HR of 143, and baby B is a BOY with a HR of 150.
Just what we wanted!
The only problem is that our little girl is measuring 9% smaller than the boy. Our Dr. is concerned that it might be twin to twin transfusion syndrome. That can be determined by a 20% difference and is much more common in identical twins. The other possibility is that the girl is just genetically smaller than the boy. Since it's only 9% at this point, that's the most likely option. Ihave another u/s in a month and they will measure again.
Did anyone else have babies measure this much different?

It sounds like you have orthostatic hypotension. That's when there's a significant drop in your blood pressure after sitting up from a lying down position.

Congrats on your little girl and boy!! My fiance and I wanted b/g twins but we love our girls now that they're here.

I had identical twins and throughout my pregnancy (based on my u/s) they always measured alike. There was never really a significant difference in their sizes. At birth twin A was 6 lbs and18 3/4 inches long while twin B was 6 lbs 12.5 oz and 18 3/4 inches long.

yeah!! my girl is about 8% bigger than the boy...my dr says not to get worried unless it gets closer to a 20% difference. i'm hoping that the boy catches up to the girl or passes her up so i won't have to have a c-section.

Hey Leigh!!
You know thats what I was thinking...LOL...LOL...I figured you must have had them...LOL
I hope you have a great weekend with hubby and Benny!!

Misty~ WOOOO HOOOOOO congrats!! I sent you a message but not sure if you got it......Are you having identicles?
Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome occurs specifically in identical twins sharing the same placenta. It is estimated to occur in 5-10% of identical twin pregnancies. In twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, the twins share not only the same placenta but some of the same circulation. This allows the transfusion of blood from one twin (the donor) to the other (the recipient). The donor twin becomes small and anemic, and the recipient twin becomes large and overloaded with blood.

We had a mommey here a few months ago Cassie...and babies suffered from twin to twin....
I wish you the best Misty!!!

My iron at last check was 9...OUCH!! But I feel much better now after taking the iron supliments......I will find out what it is at my next appt....

Megs~I had a dizzy spell one time....it was after my dentist appt...and I hadnt had much to eat that day...im sure it was lack of food for me...LOL...
As twinstar said...orthostatic hypotension happens when you blood pressure lowers when you stand up....and goes away once you sit down...
Your doctor can test you for it....its a very easy test only involving taking your BP....I use to perform the test all the time

Hope all our twin mommie have a wonderful 4th!!!!!!
Im in Jersey for the holiday....and its raining
I was headed to the shore....but it might be ruined now
At least I get to see my mom and dad

Chat with you all soon!

thanks! it completely sucks being in the hospital for 4th of july, and not being able to go see fireworks, only being able to hear them from the hospital : (, and not being able to actually go out with my hubby for our wedding anniversary and not being home for benny's 1st birthday.

i think im becoming depressed, ugh i just can't wait for the boys to be here.

and incase one of them is a girl just incase hubby and i decided on Eleanor Leighanne "Ellie" for short.

MistyQueen! congrats on the b/g twins, your one lucky mama! you get the best of both worlds with a boy & girl.
