many hospitals allow you to take home once they hit the 5 lb mark....... aslong as everything else is alright

as loong as he is eating good and gaining weight well, then within 2-4wks of his due date you should be able to take him home, but it varies from hospital to hospital and from doctor to doctor. good luck though and i hope all goes well.

As an example, my 30 weeker came home after 34 days. Weight isn't necessarily a big factor. It depends on what else was lacking besides his weight. What kind of breathing assistance is he getting right now? For my son, learning to eat took him the longest. With my daughter, a 28 weeker, breathing on her own took the longest. There are a lot of little bumps and downs that preemies can go through. It will depend on how many of these things your little guy can avoid and how quickly he can recover from the ones he does hit. There wasn't one moment that I wasn't thinking about when my babies would come home. It is such a frustratind, depressing thing to ponder. Hang in there though - as I've said before, it may feel like it now, but it doesn't last forever!

my twins were born in there 32nd week. Jacob weighed 4lbs. 5 oz and ethan weighed 2lbs.14 oz. They only had to stay 3 and 3 1/2 weeks. They needed to learn to take a bottle, and control there own temperture.Jacob came home at 5lbs. and ethan came home weighing 4 lbs. I think they had to be at least 4 lbs. Hang in there mama. i know it is extremely hard to see your little guy like that. The NICU will take great care of him. I'll pray foryour family!!!!! Take care

my daughter was born at the 28 week mark and she was able toc ome home when she was able to overcome her sleep apnea(which is very common that early) and when she was able to be off her caffine....they put babies on caffine sometimes cuz they need something to keep there heart pumping and keep them breathing...but she came home a month before she was due...she wasnt even 5 pounds either...just when there bodies are mature enough
