Nervous about having a big baby question

posted 28th Feb
at my doctors appt she tells me i may have a chubby baby but the baby is the size she should be at this stage of the pregnancy. My appetite has increased and my stomach is always growling. Aside from eliminating the crappy foods like candy, potatoe chips, etc is there anything i can do to ensure she does not get too big? I really do not want a c-section unless medically necessary. My mother pushed me out at 10 lbs so...

There is really nothing you can do. Just try to be as healthy as possible for the baby and dont worry too much about baby's size. Docs can only estimate anyhow - and they are not always accurate. Even if your baby is 10 lbs doesnt mean you would definitely need a c-section. There is a lot more that goes into determining if you can birth vaginally than size of the baby. Good luck

thanks. i should have asked her what does she mean chubby but normal size. it sounded like a contradiction but i didn't bother to think about it until i started craving a cheesburger! LOL your baby is ADORABLE!

You may just be destined to have a larger baby, especially if you were that big. Unfortunately, that's what I was told. I also was told my baby is chubby!! I am just trying to accept having a baby that'll probably be around 10 pounds or so...my husband was over 10 and I was 9. I don't think it can be avoided! Just like you said...avoid the junk foods that can make you fat, but there's not really anything else you can do. You still need to eat plenty to keep her developing and healthy, just make sure its good for ya food. I know plenty of women who've had vaginal deliveries with larger babies. And if it ends up you *have* to have a c-section because its best for you and baby, well then I'm sure that will be okay...and you'll still have the same end result: your baby will be here! Don't worry about it, you can do it.

My mother (a nurse) says that women generally have babies about the same size that their mothers did...so you might end up with a 10 lb baby. But, I wouldn't worry. If the baby is the right size for the dateyou will be able to handle it. Besides...what does"chubby" mean? Overly large baby? Or just a body type with more 'rolls'? My sis was born with HUGE cubby cheeks and rolls, but she only weighed 7lbs. :-)

Hey worry too much about it. I had my son two weeks early and he was 9.7 and if he was born on his due date he would have been 10 something. I think that this one is going to be just as big, and I am concerned, but I keep reminding myself that my mom pushed out a 13 ib baby with no problem and no meds. Plus my son didn't even come close to getting stuck in me, his body was big, but his head was nicely shaped....Lets hope all of us that make big babies, can make big pushes!!!!

Thanks!!   Maybe she just ment the baby has all his/her fat forming... since their baby fat doesnt plump up until later in the pregnancy? Even tiny babys can have chubby little cheeks! That kind of a thing. Try not to sweat it too much - no need for unnecessary stress.

I was thinking the same thing...the baby must be measuring normal for size, as in things like size of head like they measure during the u/s, but probably has chubby cheeks and tummy. That's what the u/s tech told me...she said "she has a chubby little tummy!!" So if your baby is normal sized and chubby, how cute will that be? Little chubby cheeks to pinch.

LOL. That sounds cute. She said she is normal size for this stage in the pregnancy so maybe the baby just have some cute rolls. Thanks to everyone who responded    Being a mother is exciting but scary too. I am paranoia about so much.
