Red, enflamed, oozing, blistering ear! Help!!

posted 18th Jul '11
OK, thoughts?

I got home from work an hour ago and noticed my sons ear was sticking out of his head. (crappy cell pic)

So I inspected closer. You can see how swollen it is (since it usually looks like his other ear), its RED, and the back side of it is oozing watery puss out of the pores.

It also has a few little blistery looking bumps right in the middle there you can kind of see.

So I spent an hour on the phone with nurses and drs. For tonight we're keeping him on benadryl, and we have an appt for the morning. If he spikes a fever I'm to take him into the er since it would likely be an infection. For now they're thinking it's an allergic reaction. But nothing for certain obviously. I have plenty of guesses as to what it could be, but I'm figuring since there are lots of mommies here maybe someones actually had this on their kids before. So has anyone? And what was it?? It's freaking me out between how gross it is and not knowing what it is. I hate that I had to put him in bed and don't get to keep a constant watch on him. I wish they had found me an appt tonight.

It looks like what happens to my DH when he gets stung by a bee. He is mildly allergic so where ever he gets stung swells up and is hot to the touch. Usually he takes benadryl and ices it for the swelling and ends up fine after a while.

Quoting Kevin + 1 in the oven:" It looks like what happens to my DH when he gets stung by a bee. He is mildly allergic so where ever ... [snip!] ... stung swells up and is hot to the touch. Usually he takes benadryl and ices it for the swelling and ends up fine after a while."

Hmmm, see I feel like if he had been stung by a bee he would have known, you know? I asked him if he got hurt or anything happened and he said no.
