i don't know if i'll be any help but my son was born at 32weeks exactly, i had the shot for his lungs and his apgar scores at 1 and 5 minutes life wwas 9 and 9.he was in the nicu for 6 weeks but was only 3 10 when he was born.he is home and doing wonderful, its hard having a baby in nicu but having friends on here really helped me and having pple to talk to in the NICU wieth moms going thru is helped also. having a preemie baby is just like having a regular baby only you get to watch them grow on the outside for that much longer and watch how much stronger they come. my son is now 3 months old and 10 pounds and doing fantastic with the exception of his heart.. everything will be fine, NICU personell are very nice and supportive and if youe ver need someone to tlak to just pm me.. i'll try to be as helpful as possible-

Yeh i think i remember reading one of your posts and you said you didnt even know what IUGR was? another mom had to tell you why it happens?! Normallya consultant gives multiple scans and a diagnosis and explains it before birth, its very different from SGA and can have long lasting consequences over just 'being small'. What type of iugr did you son have? Its really an extra worry ontop of just being preemie isnt it. Its bad enough having to be born so early, never mind being weeks behind in growth   Did they say when they thought he would catch up? I hopeyour lil manis growing nice an chunky now

Everyone's stories and providing the websites to visit to learn helps so much. I never thought I would be facing the NICU with one child much less 2. I asked my doctor what his main concern was for the twins and he said BREATHING! Guess I should have known that.Although he believed that we were "ahead of the curve" and that there is basically a 50/50 chance that one or both will need to be on the ventaliater(sp?) for 5-7 or at the most 10 days. Of course this isn't in stone because we aren't even delivering until tomorrow, but I feel better knowing he is not worried about a multitude of problems. Now if my recovery will just be speedy so I can go see them in the NICU, things will be just fine.

Yeah They never told me what IUGR was and never told me what caused it or what type it was. They said he's going to be fine.and he's doing great in 3 weeks he now weighs 5lbs 2 oz. he still has some problems with eating but because him being not full term thats expected. He's acting like he's grown though.Making grunting noises just for attention.

Just a quick update..Saturday the 1st I was scheduled for a c-section. I had developed preeclampsia and they figured Thursday that I needed to be delivered but I really didn't want to deliver on Feb.29 (leap year), so they said they wouldn't unless it was an emergency. Saturday they drew blood and all my numbers were in the normal range. My doctors said there isn't any medical explanation for it and so they decided to wait til Sunday and do more labs and if they thought I could carry them another week then they wouldn't deliver, if they thought I could only make it a til Wednesday or so they would deliver.

My labs came back and were even better! So after the emotional roll-a-coaster, I am still pregnant. The girls look excellent! He told me he was literally going to be looking for a reason to deliver me because they are doing so well..and the risks for me are on a steady incline although I am fine right now.

I will be in the hospital until I deliver and the only thing he will committ to is that he won't let me be pregnant March 15th. So, IF I make it that long the twins will be at 34 weeks and he thinks they will be able to go home with me  ! There still is a very serious chance I won't make it that long and they will spend time in NICU but as of this moment everyones prayers have worked a miracle. I want to thank everyone that has shared their experiences and prayed for us. Ya'll are the best!!

my son didnt have to go to the nicu.. but they talked about it the first couple hours.. he was on a feeding tube for about 12 hours, and they gave him oxygen for about 6 hours. the biggest problem that my son had after that was his body temp. he couldnt stay warm without a heater... i really didnt get to take care of him til the last day (i had to stay in the hospital for 3 1/2 days)
