re: Official TTA (Trying to Adopt) Thread.

Well I would really like to keep this thread going so I just wanted to say that we are making our appointment to get our pictures made to go with our profile. We have a lot of regular/everyday ones but we wanted to get pro ones made. Once we have those, then we can offically publish our profile. One of the sites we are going through is hopingtoadopt.org. We want to also get some pass along cards made by the same website and then we are going to do a scrapbook for it as well. I really hope this happends for us!!

I haven't heard of this site yet. One thing to keep in mind as you're putting your profile online is to make sure the site's source is legit. You don't want to post on a fraud site.

I'm not saying this one is, I'm just saying it as a reminder to do your research on your agency.

She also said before separating the TTA and TTC groups she wants to be sure that we have enough TTA ladies on the site first to keep the group active and suggested me to do a poll to see how many of us TTA girls there are on the site.

Anyone else look at the children waiting websites? I swear I get on there everyday, just to look. Makes me wish our homestudy was done so I could put in inquiries about some of them.

The only one I know of is Reeces Rainbow, and my husband doesn't want to take on a special needs child right now as we can't afford all the therapy and medical interventions necessary to allow them to live their life to its fullest potential.

What other sites are there?

Just an FYI--If you adopt a special need child you will get a substidy each month for that child and that child will also be on your state's insurance for life. Something to think about if $$ is the only thing holding you back.

I'm sure there are other reasonsn--but just wanted to point out that fact in case $$ was the only thing holding you back.

When DH and I were TTA, we looked everyday at ALL the waiting children's sites. After not hearing back about kids we inquired about we just decided to look online for BMs.

http://www.adoptuskids.org/This is the website I look at. We have decided that moderate disabilities we would be okay handling. Being a military family I think we have a lot of resources available to us for us to help. I just want all homestudies and paper work out of the way so we can be licensed.

I didnt think about that. Theres a couple that I want to inquire about but just waiting till we are licensed.

We are a military family too. (well DH just got out on Sunday but will be rejoining when there is a signing bonus available - whenever that may be) from what we found theres not a ton of resources available via military, but each branch is different.

I was more meaning we have the health care for medical expenses, and therapy if needed for emotional needs. Plus the military has a tax refund for military families adopting which helps lower the cost. Also since there is free legal on base, they can help also.

Hello everyone! This is a great thread! Now, a little background on me and our situation. I was born with a rare genetic disorder known as Larsen's Syndrome (a joint disorder which involves joint dislocations, hearing loss, cleft pallet/lip and other physical symptoms. Children with this disorder often need to undergo numerous surgeries and many years of physical therapy). Recent genetic testing was unable to tell us if my form of the condition could be passed on to our children. Consequently, we will be adopting. Unfortunately, we only recently got married and need to wait a year before we can start working with an agency. It's disappointing because we both would like to start out family as soon as possible. Until we can go forward with the process I plan to keep myself occupied by researching, reading, and talking about adoption online (I'm hoping this thread stays active)

You should talk to your county's social services office to see if they have a "fast track" adoption program where the children already have the parental rights terminated
