DETROIT (AP) - Police in Detroit are investigating the disappearance of a 5-year-old girl from her home and the discovery of a child's body in a house about a mile away that was intentionally set on fire.
Sgt. Eren Stephens said Monday morning that authorities have "no evidence to connect the two cases."
An Amber Alert was issued Sunday for Mariha Trenice Smith.
Mariha's mother reported the child missing around midday Sunday. She told police she last saw the girl sleeping on a floor in their home about 3:30 a.m. Later that day, she said the girl was gone and a window was wide open.
Stephens says investigators were awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death and gender of the child found about 8 a.m. Sunday in the burned house.

oh my goodness....     this gave me chills...SOOOO sad for the child that passed away, I hope they find out who it is soon and that if there was foul play involved that justice is swift to the perp....how terrible!!!  

but thank you for the "update" on it possibly being the same girl...

It's so sad, I'm ready to take Wzzm and WoodTv off my facebook because I'm sick of seeing all these news reports, but since I don't watch the news I'd never see anything if they weren't on there!

Hoping they find all these children soon, and find out who killed that poor little girl in Detroit

that's EXACTLY how I am. Hell, I only found out about the shootings recently because of FB, had I not had them on my FB I might not have ever known and the guy was about 9 miles from me. They post some really weird stuff and they even posted a picture of a motorcyclist covered with a blanket on the side of the road that was killed in Muskegon recently...That hit me hard because my brother died in a car accident and I sure as hell would not want a picture of his (albeit covered) dead body all over the internet!!

She could have some kind of disorder..or maybe it's an error/guess...or mayb malnourishment.

In my opinion, and that's all it is, the child found in the burned house is more likely not hers based on the fact that this article says that the burned child was said to be aged 5 to 7 years old and this woman's missing child, although 5years old, was extremely tiny for her age. Either way I hope her daughter is returned safely soon and my thoughts are with the family of this deceased child.

Oh, and she was passed out drunk when her daughter went missing? Interesting...

ONLY good part about that it wasn't another little girl that was dead while the other one is missing. What is wrong with this world?

JUST as I am replying to this, I got a text that this particular Amber Alert was cancelled......

ARGH!!!     How terrible...   ... thank you for the update momma, unfortunately this will be the first missing child I have to list as "found deceased" on this list.....

Im heartbroken, this is just horrible, in so many ways...I hope they find out who did it!

4 month old (when she went missing...would be 8 months old now) little girl from Nashville, TN. Her mother was found dead in the Cumberland River a month later, no sign of the girl. There have been leads of her being spotted in FL and TX.
