fast breathing

posted 6th Jul '11
My son is 2 1/2 weeks old and was born just shy of 36 weeks... he breaths fast pretty consistantly on and off through out the day and night...sleeping and awake. The peditrician said it was normal but if he does it constant for 10 min or more to call. Last night he breathed fast for a couple of hours straight... it was kinda hard to tell if its non stop or not but it was pretty constant, but he was acting normal so I just waited until the morning and he went back to his normal breathing (still fast at times). It really makes me anxious though, anybody else going thru the same thing with their baby? To what point did you have to call or take him to the ER? TIA

i would either take him to the pedi (if u have a good one) or to the ER just to make sure nothing is going on with his lungs!

My daughter is just now three weeks and she does the same thing..my doc said it was because her lungs were not fully developed and at night/when she is sleeping her body is more relaxed and her lungs work a little hard. when her lungs getting stronger she wont breath like that...the doc said a way to help their lungs develop faster is by letting them cry a little longer then normal. if the lungs are too far under developed then they have to be put on monitors and have help controlling their lungs till they are able to. Good Luck momma..hope it gets better for you

He's good, still breaths fast on and off usually more at night but nothing like that one night. Can't wait until he grows out of it though!
