Likelihood of twins after miscarriage?

posted 12th Jun '11
Someone told me that you have a higher chance of having twins if you get pregnant right after a miscarriage.

Any truth to this? I googled it and not much came up.

I can't say for sure, but I'vwe done a lot of research on twins and I've never seen that. I've never researched miscarriages though.

If you miscarry twins though.. yea. Your chances of twins doubles every time you conceive twins.

I have heard that too. Something about hormones releasing multiple eggs or something

as far as I know, it's all genetic. fraternal twins = you dropping two eggs at once, and twins is two sperm fertilizing the same egg at once. So I can't imagine an MC has any effect on this whatsoever.

Nope. Identical twins is not genetic. And it's not two sperm fertilizing one egg. It's when one egg divides into two after it is fertilized.

"monozygotic twinning appears to be a random event, and all parents have a reasonably equal chance of conceiving identical twins."

lol, no problem.

I had no idea that fraternal twins are genetic because there is a gene that causes women to hyperovulate. That's sweet.

wellI fail at science then   I know the egg hardens as soon as the sperm gets in, but I thought it was possible if htey managed at the same time

lol, not so much when you're the one with Hyperovulation, wondering with each pregnancy if you'll have twins again!

My sister had 2 sets of twins, with only 2 pregnancies.

Not sure about the twins after miscarriage BUT I am pregnant with fraternal twins (one boy & one girl) and NO ONE in my family has twins. Not sure the stats for the genetics part of it all either.

Ive heard that too and wondering the same thing! Weve been having unprotected sex pretty much since I stopped bleeding (which was 2 weeks after my miscarriage).

My dad was a twin, so once I heard about odds being higher after a miscarriage and adding the genetics in there I FREAKED out lol But then I read somewhere that twins arnt genetic and that its a common myth.
